Special businesses that offer curbside pick up are now open. Additionally, personal training and dog grooming have been allowed to resume (if they follow social distancing practices). Elective medical procedures have also been allowed to continue.

The first phase includes allowing certain small businesses to reopen, outdoor gym glasses, recreational activities to continue, and allowing religious gatherings of limited attendance. Certain medical procedures will be allowed to continue as well.
The second phase allows raising the minimum number of people allowed in a gathering, childcare services reopening, indoor gyms, the return of transit schedules, and bars and restaurants reopening under certain conditions.

Martingales: Ante Up

Martingales
Part One: Something Wicked This Way Comes
Part Two: Instruments of Darkness
Part Three: Absolute Zero
Part Four: All Sevens
Part Five: Whale-Watching
Part Six: On the Shores of Oblivion
Theme
“Martin! Martin, are you okay dude?” For the second time in recent memory (well, only memory), the sound of a worried man hits his ears. Groggily, Martin opens his eyes, finding himself staring up at a white globe of light, and Anthony as well. The expression on his face is one of evident relief as he sees his friend’s eyes open.
“Oh, thank god; I thought you really bit it this time, bro,” Anthony rises to his feet and starts pacing around the room. As he wears a tread in the floor, Martin takes the time to appreciate his new surroundings. No babble of mechanical beeps or bleats of patrons, the room looks to be a suite rather than the casino floor itself. A comfortable bed beneath him, with a small hallway that leads to a bathroom, and another door beyond that. To the right, where Anthony paces, Martin sees a wall of windows that look into the casino beneath.
We must be pretty high up, Martin thinks as he swings his feet off the bed and plants them on the floor. Eighty feet, at least. The rustling of the bedspread must have pulled Anthony from his fugue, for he’s right there, watching Martin as if he’s nervous the boy will leap through the glass with a cheery wink and wave.
“I’m not sure you should be getting up, Martin,” Anthony says worriedly. His eyes dart to the door, and then back to the windows. “Why don’t you just lay down and rest up? I can get you some water if you need.”
“I’ll be okay now. I feel… I feel fine, honestly,” and it’s true! For the first time since arriving at the Lotus, Martin can finally say that his head doesn't hurt in the slightest. Is it still filled with an impenetrable fog? Yes, but it’s not throbbing with every heartbeat like the world’s most sadistic percussionist lives in his skull anymore. Putting his palms against his knees, Martin pulls himself off the bed with a small grunt of effort. Standing, and without feeling like he’s going to fall over; progress!
“Martin, you were out for almost two days man,” Anthony’s words drive into Martin like a hammer. Two days unconscious! He knew his head had hurt, but he didn’t expect it would be enough to do him in like that. For a moment or two, he’s silent. The information that Anthony has supplied needs to be properly processed.
“Well… I’m up now,” he states. “And I need to clean up anyways, so I’m going to do that. The bathroom is that way, right?”
“Er, yeah. That hallway to the right, and then the door on the left. I’ll lend you a change of clothes,” he jerks his thumb in that direction, and Martin is quick to make his way down the hall. A little sore from being in bed, but beyond that, nothing seems to be hurting Martin as he slips into the bathroom. It’s surprisingly spacious, with a proper bathtub and separate shower along with a section of wall devoted to mirrors. Grabbing a towel and other necessities, Martin gets himself cleaned up.
As he pulls on black v-neck, a few things come to Martin’s mind.
“Hey, Anthony?” He calls out. “How long did you say I was out?”
“Two days, buddy!” The reply echoes down the hall.
“Thanks! Just trying to get my head on straight,” Martin replies, letting the door click shut again.
Why is he dressed the same as he was two days ago? Martin’s mind offers the thought as a trickle of uncertainty runs down his spine. Sure, Anthony could be wearing the same things, but why would he do that? If it’s a trip they planned, he must have more clothes, he lent some to Martin after all.
Come to think of it… Why doesn’t Martin have his own luggage or clothes here? It doesn’t make sense. In confusion, Martin grinds his lower lip against his teeth, trying to solve the puzzle. It’s something silly perhaps, but none of the pieces fit the picture on the box.
Unless this was a fabrication.
The thought careens through the fog to sit heavily on the forefront of Martin’s mind. If he was really hurt as bad, or unconscious for two days, he shouldn’t be in a hotel room, should he? Hell, someone should’ve brought him to a hospital!
As he deals with the torrent of worries, something catches his eye from the depths of a hamper. Rustling through it, he pulls out an orange shirt.
“Eugh, this thing reeks…” He mutters as he turns it over in his hand. It’s soggy and carries a few stains as well. The lower hem sparkles faintly with glitter, and Martin’s eyes linger on a few red blotches that dye the orange a dark and ominous red.
Blood… Mine? He wonders. When he’d showered, he hadn’t noticed any wounds or the like, though. He turns the shirt over, looking at the front. The image of a winged horse greets him, with the phrases ‘Camp Half-Blood’ and ‘Long Island Sound’ above and beneath it.
“What the hell…?” The words slip his lips as he keeps looking at the impossible avian equine emblazoned on the shirt. Anthony had said they came from Nebraska, hadn’t he? He could’ve went to some Camp out in New York before this and just wore the shirt on a lark, but… that doesn’t seem right. Why does it smell that bad? Why is it bloodstained?
“Hey Martin, are you okay? I’ve got something to tell you when you’re done!” Anthony calls out.
“Uh, just a moment!” Martin replies, turning on the water to create a bit more noise. After a moment’s thought, he begins to tear the shirt into several pieces, leaving the pegasus and the two phrases whole. He takes the hand-sized portion and slips it into a pants pocket, putting the rest of the scraps back inside the hamper and hides it in one of the storage closets.
Catching himself in the mirror, Martin sees a worried-looking young man gazing back at him. Deep breaths, he warns himself. Nothing is wrong, just ask some questions and learn what you can. Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding. The boy looking back at him certainly doesn’t seem convinced, but at the very least, the worry lines marring his brow slowly recede and he just looks sad instead. If it were any other situation, he would be concerned about that… maybe. Or maybe he had other problems… A look at his scarred arm explained that well enough. A woodchipper would’ve been more compassionate, he thinks dryly.
“Martin, let’s go man!” Anthony repeats, and Martin picks up a note of tension in his voice. I’d better go, he thinks. Slipping out of the bathroom, he rejoins his… well, friend in the common room of the suite.
“So, you said you have something to tell me?” He asks as Anthony relaxes seeing him.
“Yeah, it’s good news!” Anthony announces. The smile on his face washes away the notes of displeasure that were carried in his voice earlier. Curious, Martin gestures for him to carry on.
“So, while you were out, I did a little bit of digging. I wanted to see if they had people who could help you with your head in house, so that way we don't have to find a hospital in Vegas."
"That's… Great?" Martin offers. The confusion is obvious in his voice as he tries to find the pepper home for this information. Who wouldn't find a hospital for a friend who passed out due to a head injury?
"It is! I found something!" Anthony crows. "Apparently, they have a memory coping group upstairs on the fiftieth story; super exclusive, but VIP members like us can make use of the service for free, isn't that super cool?"
"Why does a casino offer that?"
"Who's to say?" A question answered with a question. "Maybe it's a part of some outreach that they do, or maybe it's a support group? I don't know Martin, I just can't help but be impressed by our luck; it's probably a good thing for the Lotus that we're not on the casino floor, eh?" He elbows Martin in the side playfully, a smile plastered across his face. The amnesiac wishes he could share in that joy, but his stomach roils with the issue of doubt that has nested there.
"We should probably get going, the elevator is a pretty slow one I've been told. Plus, we've got a lot way to go. You ready, Martin?"
Of course not, he wants to say. How can I trust you? I don't know anything about where we're going!
"Yeah, I'm ready," he says. Anthony pats his shoulder, and the two make their way out of the hotel suite. Padding down the plush hallway carpet, they make their way to a set of sliding doors, hiding the elevator within. A button press and a few minutes later, the doors slide open. The inside of the elevator is opulent, looking like someone stole it from some Baron's private estate. The buttons carry a mother of Pearl sheen, the carpet is dark red and plush, and the woodwork could put a mirror to shame with how it reflects the recessed lighting.
"Alright, floor fifty, here we come!" Anthony announces. Shepherding Martin in with him, he presses a button near the top of veritable wall of them. Hardly more than a whisper occurs as the doors glide shut. If there wasn't a readout that gradually increased as time passed, Martin wouldn't even know that they had started moving.
"Can… can I ask you some questions, Anthony? Since we’ve got the time here, I figured… well, it would be nice to put together some of the things swimming around in my head.” An innocent enough request, and it’s not like there’s anywhere to go. Martin’s hoping that with Anthony trapped in here with him, then he can get some answers out of the guy. And if he refuses to offer them? Well, that’ll just further cement the tendrils of suspicion that have taken root in his mind.
“Sure man, we can do that. I can’t promise you answers to everything, but I think can stumble through most of the things you’re curious about. What do you want to know?”
“Well… Can you tell me anything about my parents?” Martin prompts. A few seconds pass as Anthony seems to gather his thoughts.
“So, your mom is named Andrea, she works in an office as a receptionist. Your father’s name is Michael, and he works at an insurance company. I think he said it was some small-bit agency, nothing too fancy.” As he explains, Martin’s brow furrows; that doesn’t sound anything like the guy he’d seen in his dream. The man who’d called him his son was a military officer, or something like that, not someone who peddled policies and premiums.
“Has he always worked there?”
“As far as I know,” Anthony pauses, then adds, “But I don’t know everything about him Martin, he could’ve done something before we met, I guess.”
A rather safe answer, there. Something that absolves him of any inconsistencies… or maybe he just doesn’t know. Internally, Martin groans. If Anthony keeps on placating with platitudes of neutrality, there’s no way he’ll get a definitive answer here. Still, he has to keep on trying; who knows when he’ll get an opportunity like this again?
“Where are we from, Anthony?”
“Oh, well we’re from Iowa!”
“...I thought you said Nebraska?” Martin points out, and he swears he can see a look of derision on Anthony’s face, but it’s all too brief.
“We’re from Iowa, we drove through Nebraska,” Anthony amends, and this time Martin is sure that he sees cracks in the facade. Anthony is hiding something, he’s trying to keep the story straight.
“Look, Martin, how about we just save the questions for after this, when we can sit down and talk, huh?” He tries. His voice is honeyed and amiable, but on Martin’s ears it’s hoarse and ugly; a sound that carries nothing of the intent that the speaker hoped to put across to the listener. Still, it’s probably best to not put him too much on the defensive now…
“I have one more question,” Martin says, being rewarded with a heavy sigh from Anthony in reply.
“Fine. One more question.”
“What is Camp Half-Blood?” As the question spills from Martin’s lips, he watches the color blanch from Anthony’s face, the facade of his easygoing appearance clattering earthward like slabs of marble from a statue. A few seconds pass, and the stricken expression is replaced with thunderclouds. The still, humid summer peace being broken with storm sirens as Anthony looms over him. Martin stands his ground, staring up at his supposed friend with a stern expression.
“Just where did you hear about-”
Ding! The elevator cuts off Anthony’s question with a chime, and the doors slide open with little more than a whisper. Martin’s jaw drops as he takes in the sight beyond.
“Okay, what the hell is this?”

Part 2: A Timeline of Epstein, Trump, Sex Trafficking, and the Intelligence Community

I don't think John DeCamp gets everything right, especially his claims about satanic groups, but in 1988 we learn about the Franklin Coverup, which Wikipedia describes as:
"The Franklin child prostitution ring allegations began in June 1988 in Omaha, Nebraska and attracted significant public and political interest until late 1990, when separate state and federal grand juries concluded that the allegations were unfounded and the ring was a "carefully crafted hoax."[1][2].
From the NYT:
(12/18/88) A Lurid, Mysterious Scandal Begins Taking Shape in Omaha
In the Executive Board's public session Monday, Mr. Chambers said the activities of Lawrence E. King Jr., the credit union's manager for the last 18 years and the central figure in its collapse, were ''just the tip of an iceberg, and he's not in it by himself.'' But Mr. Chambers added nothing that would shed light on his cryptic assertion....Mr. King is a 44-year-old Omaha resident who wholly or partly owns several small businesses here and lives with his wife and school-age son in a large house in one of the city's better neighborhoods. He is a tall, expansive figure well known for his costly style of dressing, lavish celebrations and extensive travel, sometimes in chartered jets and often with an entourage of young men.In 1972 he headed a national political organization, Black Democrats for George McGovern. But he gained greater prominence after he had switched parties a while later, serving for a time as vice chairman of the National Black Republican Council, an official affiliate of the Republican Party, and becoming a familiar figure on the Republican social scene.Mr. King has maintained a $5,000-a-month residence off Embassy Row in Washington and has also entertained generously at Republican National Conventions. At the 1984 gathering, in Dallas, where he sang the national anthem on the convention floor, he rented the ranch where the television series ''Dallas'' is filmed and organized a party there for black Republicans....Mr. King's trouble with the authorities came to the surface early last month when officials of the Government's National Credit Union Administration, acting on information from the F.B.I. and the Internal Revenue Service, arrived at the offices of the Franklin Community Federal Credit Union and shut it down. Then, on Nov. 14, the agency, which oversees the nation's federally chartered credit unions and insures their deposits, filed the Government suit against Mr. King, whose salary as Franklin Community's manager had been less than $17,000 a year.
(1989) Washington Call Boy Scandal
Craig J. Spence (1941 – November 10, 1989) was a Republican) lobbyist who was found dead in a Ritz-Carlton hotel room in 1989.[1][2] ...Spence was implicated in a gay call-boy ring scandal, that arranged after-hours visits to the White House, the Washington Times and other papers reported in June 1989. Afterward, Spence committed suicide in a Boston hotel....Spence's name came to national prominence in the aftermath of a June 28, 1989 article in the Washington Timesidentifying Spence as a customer of a homosexual escort service being investigated by the Secret Service, the District of Columbia Police and the United States Attorney's Office for suspected credit card fraud. The newspaper said he spent as much as $20,000 a month on the service. He had also been linked to a White House guard who has said he accepted an expensive watch from Mr. Spence and allowed him and friends to take late-night White House tours.[4]Spence entered a downward spiral in the wake of the Washington Times exposé, increasingly involving himself with call boys and crack,[5] and culminating in his July 31, 1989 arrest at the Barbizon Hotel on East 63rd St in Manhattan for criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of cocaine.[6]Months after the scandal had died down, and a few weeks before Spence was found in a room of the Boston Ritz-Carlton Hotel, he was asked who had given him the "key" to the White House. Michael Hedges and Jerry Seper of The Washington Times reported that "Mr. Spence hinted the tours were arranged by 'top level' persons", including Donald Gregg, national security adviser to Vice President George H. W. Bush at the time the tours were given.[5]When pressed to identify who it was who got him inside the White House, Spence asked "Who was it who got [long-term CIA operative] Félix Rodríguez) in to see Bush?", agreeing that he was alluding to Mr. Gregg.[5]Gregg himself dismissed the allegation as "absolute bull", according to Hedges and Seper. "It disturbs me that he can reach a slimy hand out of the sewer to grab me by the ankle like this," he told the reporters. "The allegations are totally false."[5]
I'll let you decide how credible you find any of this so far. It should be noted that many of the people implicated in these affairs -- Wilson, Singlaub, Moon, Casey, Rodriguez, Bush, Stone, and Gregg -- were also involved to varying degrees in the Iran Contra Affair, which illegally raised money for anti-communist terrorists in Central America through the use of death squads, rape, and drug sales. One does not necessarily equal the other, but sexual blackmail and human trafficking don't seem like much of a stretch.
An article by The Guardian notes:
Czechoslovakia ramped up spying on Trump in late 1980s, seeking US intel:
In summer 1987, Donald and Ivana Trump visited Moscow and Leningrad, following a personal invitation from the Soviet ambassador in Washington, Yuri Dubinin. The trip was arranged by Intourist, a travel agency that was also an undercover KGB outfit. Soon after returning from Moscow, Trump announced he was thinking of running for president. That presidential bid failed to materialise. In October 1988, on the eve of the US election, Ivana Trump visited her parents in Zlín, known at the time as Gottwaldov. According to the files she “confidently” predicted Bush’s victory to her father, who in turn passed the tip to local StB officers.“The outcome of the election confirmed the veracity of this information,” StB field agent Lt Peter Surý wrote, in a document dated 23 January 1989 and marked “secret”.The prediction came “from the highest echelons of power in the US”. Ivana was “not only a well-heeled US citizen” but moved in “very top political circles”, Surý stated....It is unclear when the KGB began a file on the future president. In Prague about 60,000 StB documents were declassified in the mid-1990s, after the collapse of communism. The StB destroyed most records. However, secret memos written by the KGB chief, Vladimir Kryuchkov, in the mid-1980s reveal that he berated his officers for their failure to cultivate top-level Americans. Kryuchkov circulated a confidential personality questionnaire to KGB heads of station abroad, setting out the qualities wanted from a potential asset.According to instructions leaked to British intelligence by the KGB defector Oleg Gordievsky, they included corruption, vanity, narcissism, marital infidelity and poor analytical skills. The KGB should focus on personalities who were upwardly mobile in business and politics, especially Americans, the document said.
Another article in the Chicago Tribune notes:
Czechoslovakia secret police file: Trump sure of presidential win — in 1996:
A year before the 1989 collapse of communism in many parts of Europe, details about Ivana Trump's 1988 visit back to her homeland were recorded in a classified police report. The Oct. 22, 1988 report claimed that Trump refused to run for president in 1988 — despite alleged pressure to do so — because he felt, at 42, he was too young. But the secret report said he intended to run in the 1996 U.S. presidential race as an independent, when he would be 50."Even though it looks like a utopia, D. TRUMP is confident he will succeed," the police report said, based on information from an unspecified source who talked to Ivana Trump's father, Milos Zelnicek, about her visit. It was unclear where the alleged "pressure" was coming from. [Note: In "Get Me Roger Stone", Stone claims he was the one who convinced Trump to run.]...Trump's first wife was born Ivana Zelnickova in 1949 in the Czechoslovak city of Gottwaldov, the former city of Zlin that just had been renamed by the Communists, who took over the country in 1948. She married Trump, her second husband, in 1977. As she kept traveling home across the Iron Curtain on a regular basis, Ivana became a tempting target for the powerful, deeply feared Czechoslovak secret police agency known as the StB.
And by at least 1989, Trump himself was in the social circle of both Iran Contra figures and the father of Epstein's alleged "madame", Ghislaine Maxwell:
(This is from a previous post I made, seen here. Some of the links are subscription only, but are provided for accuracy)
NY Daily News - May 5, 1989:
“Everybody, but everybody at the party aboard British media mogul Robert Maxwell’s yacht Wednesday night had to doff their shoes before boarding the plush-carpeted “Lady Ghislaine.” Maxwell insisted, and his guests cooperated, including Donald Trump (minus Ivana), who has a much bigger yacht and was happy to compare notes with Maxwell. [Note: This is in reference to the Kingdom 5KR, originally owned by Adnan Khashoggi, international arms dealer and uncle of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi.] There were John Tower [Republican Senator in charge of the Tower Commission, which investigated Iran Contra]; ex-Navy secretary John Lehman [Reagan appointee 1981-1987], now with Paine Webber; lawyer Tom Bolan [law partner of Roy Cohn]; literary agent Mort Janklow [clients include both Nancy and Ronald Reagan for their memoirs]; UN envoy Thomas Pickering [currently a board member at the world’s biggest pipe company, OAO TMK, in Moscow and Chairman of the Rostropovich-Vishnevskaya Foundation, “a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC that supports programs to improve the health of children worldwide”]; and Peter Kalikow, owner of the New York Post [awarded the Israel Peace Medal in 1982; created a super PAC for Herman Cain that was later revealed to be entirely financed by his donations]; Maxwell’s daughter, Ghislaine, and his niece, Helene Atkin of Macmillan, the publishing house Maxwell recently took over."[Note: This sentence wasn't in the Daily News article but shows up in a St Louis Dispatch piece a week later]: “Maxwell, who weighs about 300 pounds, went over the guest list personally.""No one could tell who didn’t make the final list, but we do know that Martha Smilgis of Time was disinvited by David Adler, public relations chief at Macmillan. She wrote the profile of Maxwell which he apparently did not like.”
Who was Ghislaine’s father?
Ian Robert Maxwell "MC (10 June 1923 – 5 November 1991), born Ján Ludvík Hyman Binyamin Hoch, was a British media proprietor and Member of Parliament (MP). Originally from Czechoslovakia, Maxwell rose from poverty to build an extensive publishing empire….Maxwell had a flamboyant lifestyle, living in Headington Hill Hall in Oxford, from which he often flew in his helicopter, and sailing in his luxury yacht, the Lady Ghislaine. He was notably litigious and often embroiled in controversy, including about his support for Israel at the time of the 1948 Palestine war. In 1989, he had to sell successful businesses, including Pergamon Press, to cover some of his debts. In 1991, his body was discovered floating in the Atlantic Ocean, having fallen overboard from his yacht. He was buried in Jerusalem. Maxwell's death triggered the collapse of his publishing empire as banks called in loans. His sons briefly attempted to keep the business together, but failed as the news emerged that the elder Maxwell had stolen hundreds of millions of pounds from his own companies' pension funds. The Maxwell companies applied for bankruptcy protection in 1992....Shortly before Maxwell's death, a former employee of Israel's Military Intelligence Directorate, Ari Ben-Menashe, approached a number of news organisations in Britain and the U.S. with the allegation that Maxwell and the Daily Mirror's foreign editor, Nicholas Davies, were both long-time agents for Mossad. Ben-Menashe also claimed that in 1986, Maxwell had told the Israeli Embassy in London that Mordechai Vanunu had given information about Israel's nuclear capability to The Sunday Times, then to the Daily Mirror. Vanunu was subsequently kidnapped by Mossad and smuggled to Israel, convicted of treason and imprisoned for eighteen years.Ben-Menashe's story was ignored at first, but eventually The New Yorker journalist Seymour Hersh repeated some of the allegations during a press conference in London held to publicise The Samson Option, Hersh's book about Israel's nuclear weapons. On 21 October 1991, two MPs, Labour's George Galloway and the Conservative's Rupert Allason (also known as espionage author Nigel West), agreed to raise the issue in the House of Commons under Parliamentary Privilege protection, which in turn allowed British newspapers to report events without fear of libel suits. Maxwell called the claims "ludicrous, a total invention" and sacked Davies.[44] A year later, in Galloway's libel settlement against Mirror Group Newspapers (in which he received "substantial" damages), Galloway's counsel announced that the MP accepted that the group's staff had not been involved in Vanunu's abduction. Galloway himself, however, referred to Maxwell as "one of the worst criminals of the century....The Maxwell companies filed for bankruptcy protection in 1992. Kevin Maxwell was declared bankrupt with debts of £400 million. In 1995, Kevin and Ian and two other former directors went on trial for conspiracy to defraud, but were unanimously acquitted by a twelve-man jury in 1996.”
Epstein's own weird history has been spoken of to some degree, and I'm not sure I have much to add at this point, but perhaps it's important in context.
Financier in sex abuse case went from math whiz to titan
He taught calculus and physics at the prestigious Dalton School, a prep school in Manhattan, from 1973 to 1975, despite not having a college degree. Attorney General William Barr's father, Donald Barr, was headmaster at the time...Epstein left Dalton in the mid-1970s for a job at Bear Stearns at the urging of a student's father who arranged a meeting with the chairman of the investment bank, according to published reports. He later began his own money-management business, J. Epstein & Co....Epstein has long obscured the source of his wealth. Even after his arrest, he refused to provide authorities with even basic information about his income and assets. His attorney said Epstein's lawyers intend to provide the information but want to make sure it is correct first. This much is clear: "He is a man of nearly infinite means," federal prosecutor Alex Rossmiller said in court....Epstein also forged a relationship with Leslie Wexner, the retail titan behind Victoria's Secret, The Limited and other store chains. He started managing Wexner's money in the late 1980s and helped straighten out the finances for a real estate development Wexner was backing in a wealthy Columbus, Ohio, suburb. It was through Wexner that [in1996] Epstein acquired his Manhattan mansion, a seven-story, 21,000-square-foot former prep school less than a block from Central Park. It has been valued at about $77 million.
Around the same time, Trump started dating Marla Maples, who was working at his Atlantic City Taj Mahal Casino:
(1988) The Untold Story of Trump Model Management (Part 1):
Donald Trump, for his part, was becoming increasingly restless, and reckless. Despite fathering 3 children and having a devoted wife, by all accounts he didn’t spend much time with any of them, preferring work and play to the routines of domestic life. In the 80’s he made at least two life changing decisions-to step out on his wife publicly, and to expand his negligible empire into Atlantic City casinos. He built Harrah’s at Trump Plaza in 1984, and a partially completed building that became Trump Castle in 1985-a property that would be managed by his first wife, Ivana. He also scooped up the Taj Mahal in 1988, which at a cost of $1.1 billion made it the most expensive casino ever built at the time.
Some weirdness starts to pop up here, at least allegedly. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer:
(10/27/83) GROUND BROKEN FOR RESORTS' 2D N.J. CASINO-HOTEL
Resorts International, which opened the city's first gambling hall 5 1/2 years ago, broke ground yesterday for a second casino-hotel that will cost $250 million to build and will contain 1,000 hotel rooms and the world's second-largest casino.
According to Wikipedia:
Resorts International was a hotel and casino company. From its origins as a paint company, it moved into the resort business in the 1960s with the development of Paradise Island in the Bahamas, and then expanded to Atlantic City, New Jersey with the opening of Resorts Casino Hotel in 1978.
So how did a paint company morph into a multimillion dollar casino company? We're going to have to go to conspiracy theorists again. Make of it what you will:
Goodfellas: The Hidden History of Resorts International:
Resorts International was largely a family affair that grew out of a company called the Mary Carter Paint Company."Mary Carter (she never existed) was pretty much a family affair controlled by Jim Crosby, two of his brothers, and his in-laws. Based in Tampa, Florida, the firm included in its directorate James Crosby, John Crosby (a plastic surgeon in Mobile, Alabama), William Crosby (a Tampa realtor), and the Murphy brothers, Henry and Tom, who'd married the Crosby daughters. Henry owned a funeral home in Trenton, New Jersey, while Tom was board chairman of Capital Cities Communications, a successful broadcasting business founded by explorer Lowell Thomas. The explorer too was an early shareholder in Mary Carter Paint, as was Republican Thomas Dewey." (Spooks, Jim Hougan, pg. 381)Acclaimed researchers Sally Denton and Roger Morris note: "... the Mary Carter Paint Company, which was widely considered to be a CIA front that laundered payments to the Cuban exile army in the early sixties..." (The Money and the Power, pg. 284).This is certainly quite plausible considering Mary Carter was then based out of Tampa, a hub for joint CIA-Syndicate efforts to assassinate Castro. As was noted before here, Tampa don Santo Trafficante, Jr. was one of the gangsters initially tapped by the CIA's notorious Office of Security to arrange for Castro's untimely demise. Trafficante, a close associate of Meyer Lansky (whom we shall return to again), had been deeply involved in Cuba's gambling operations prior to the revolution and would later become even more deeply immersed in the world heroin trade. As was noted before here, he was very close to the emerging Cuban Mafia, which provided ample recruits to the CIA during the early 1960s despite much suspicion that Trafficante was a double agent for Castro.Certainly the Mary Carter Paint Company would have been well positioned to assist Trafficante in these endeavors in Tampa. And such a connection would also explain why the corporation, in the mid-1960s (as CIA Cuban operations were winding down), abruptly sold off its paint business and boldly delved into gambling. By the end of the decade it was managing one of the most profitable casinos in the world on the Bahama's Paradise Island. What it amounts to is that by the late period James Crosby emerged as not only the CEO of Mary CarteResorts International, but as an extremely well connected figure within the GOP and beyond."... Crosby was himself uniquely situated in Republican circles: a sometime guest at the White House, he'd donated $100,000 to Nixon's 1968 campaign. He was also a friend of, and frequent host two, Bebe Rebozo (with whom he banked). Moreover, Crosby's private intelligence agency, Intertel, was even then working with White House aides and ITT executives to discredit Jack Anderson's revelations anent ITT and Chile. At the same time, Intertel was the de factocustodian of the demented billionaire Howard Hughes (his own $100,000 donation would later result in two volumes of Senate testimony in the Watergate affair). Indeed, the ties between Paradise Island and Richard Nixon's administration were of the sort that bind: Allan Butler, owner of the failing bank that was his namesake, claims the Nixon was a silent partner of Crosby's in his Bahamian ventures, sharing a healthy chunk of Paradise Island bridge revenues with yet another secret partner, Bebe Rebozo. And by by no means finally, James O. Golden, Resorts' vice-president and one of Intertel's founding spooks, had formerly served as Nixon's Secret Service shield, later taking charge of security for the Nixon forces at the GOP's 1968 convention in Miami Beach. That Paradise Island is a special place, and had a special place in the heart (or what passed for a heart) of the Nixon regime, is abundantly clear... (Spooks, Jim Hougan, pg. 180) ...And that brings us to possibly the most curious aspects of Resorts, namely its ownership of its own vast private intelligence network. It was known as Intertel, short for International Intelligence, Inc. Intertel was incorporated in 1970 as an almost wholly-owned subsidiary of Resorts International and hit the ground running. During its heyday, Intertel had an impressive roster and an international reach. It would turn up in host of intrigues throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Curiously, it had its origins with Robert Kennedy's "Get Hoffa" squad."... Intertel, known especially and remarkably for its composition of former organized crime strike force attorneys from Robert Kennedy's Justice Department... The IRS considered Intertel... 'an organized crime enterprise of some type aimed at the Bahamas,' as one account summed up the agency's view. Roberts Peloquin and William Hundley, Kennedy's top crime fighters, had joined the firm and recruited operatives from the CIA, FBI, IRS, Secret Service, and other intelligence agencies. Staffed exclusively by what one author called 'Get Hoffa agents,' it was likened into a corporate CIA.' (The Money and the Power, Sally Denton & Roger Morris, pg. 284)...Intertel's other ventures include spying of muckraker Jack Anderson) for ITT, investigating the Chicago Tylenol murders and the Bhopal disaster. Even more ominous, however, were its dealings with a shady Belgium-based private detective agency known as Agence de Recherche et d'Information (ARI). As was noted before here, ARI was linked to members of the neo-fascist terror organization known as the Westland New Post, a few of whom had also been implicated in drug trafficking and pedophile rings. Intertel reportedly hired ARI to do some work for them during the 1980s....What is of great interest to us here is Trump's third Atlantic City casino: the Taj Mahal. While now widely associated with Trump, thanks in no small part to it leading to his first bankruptcy, it was not in fact Trump who started the casino. That dubious distinction lies with Resorts International. The company had begun construction on the Taj Mahal in 1983, but had run into persistent difficulties in finishing construction in the following years. Then, in April 1986, James Crosby died suddenly. This left Resorts in turmoil (allegedly) and Trump stepped in. Trump bought a controlling stake in the company in 1987 and was promptly named its chairman of the board.Let that sink in for a moment: Donald J. Trump, the current President of the United States, was briefly the chairman of a corporation long suspected of being a CIA front, that had decades-spanning involvement with the Syndicate, numerous "rogue" financiers, various drug and arms traffickers and which owned a vast private intelligence network...."
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer:
(07/22/87) TRUMP COMPLETES THE DEAL FOR RESORTS INTERNATIONAL
Developer Donald Trump took control of Resorts International Inc. yesterday in a $79 million deal that gives him his third Atlantic City casino, including what will be the largest gaming hall in the city.Trump sealed the deal in New York with those connected to the estate of the late founder of Resorts International, James M. Crosby.Trump paid a cash price of $135 a share for 585,068 shares of Class B stock, which has 100 times the voting power of Class A stock. He is expected to make a formal tender offer for the remaining 167,230 shares of Class B stock within the next several weeks at the same $135-a-share price. Owning all the Class B stock would give him 93 percent of the company's voting power. At a board meeting immediately after the transaction with the Crosby estate, Trump was elected chairman of the board of Resorts International, replacing Henry B. Murphy, Crosby's brother-in-law, who resigned.
And his relationship with Ivana was falling apart:
(1989) Ex-Wife: Donald Trump Made Me Feel ‘Violated’ During Sex
After a painful scalp reduction surgery to remove a bald spot, Donald Trump confronted his then-wife, who had previously used the same plastic surgeon.“Your fucking doctor has ruined me!” Trump cried. What followed was a “violent assault,” according to Lost Tycoon. Donald held back Ivana’s arms and began to pull out fistfuls of hair from her scalp, as if to mirror the pain he felt from his own operation. He tore off her clothes and unzipped his pants.“Then he jams his penis inside her for the first time in more than sixteen months. Ivana is terrified… It is a violent assault,” Hurt writes. “According to versions she repeats to some of her closest confidantes, ‘he raped me.’”Following the incident, Ivana ran upstairs, hid behind a locked door, and remained there “crying for the rest of night.” When she returned to the master bedroom in the morning, he was there.“As she looks in horror at the ripped-out hair scattered all over the bed, he glares at her and asks with menacing casualness: ‘Does it hurt?’” Hurt writes.
In 1992, Trump would divorce Ivana. It's this same year that we find him arranging a party of 30 for himself, Jeffrey Epstein, and 28 young aspiring calendar girls:
(1992) Trump Was Alone at a 1992 Party with 28 Girls and Accused Sex Trafficker Jeffrey Epstein
Part of a “calendar girl” competition organized at Trump’s request, the party was put together by a businessman named George Houraney, who spoke with the New York Times for a story published Tuesday.Houraney was also one of many to accuse Trump of sexual harassment, this time toward his former girlfriend and business partner, Jill Harth, who described an incident in 1997 as an attempted rape by Trump.“I arranged to have some contestants fly in,” Houraney told the Times. “At the very first party, I said, ‘Who’s coming tonight? I have 28 girls coming.’ It was him and Epstein.”...Before the “calendar girl” event, Houraney warned Trump about Epstein once again.“Look, Donald, I know Jeff really well, I can’t have him going after younger girls,” Houraney recalled telling Trump in the Times interview. “He said: ‘Look I’m putting my name on this. I wouldn’t put my name on it and have a scandal.’”
[EDIT: MSNBC reports on 07/17/2019 on newly discovered footage of Trump and Epstein discussing women at a party in November of 1992.]
The Boston Globe reported:
(1992) The pageant of Donald Trump’s dreams
It was a snowy night in Manhattan, December 1992, and the festive group was embarking on a circuit of exclusive clubs after a sumptuous dinner at the Plaza Hotel’s Oak Room.As the limo wove through the city, Trump discussed his views on dating, according to one of the women riding along. The billionaire casino mogul declared that “all women are bimbos” and said most were “gold diggers” who would be smart to go after men with money. Like him.Rhonda Noggle, the model who relayed the story to the Globe in an interview, said that, at that point, she had had enough. Speaking sharply to Trump, she said, she asked him to stop the limo. The car grew silent.
(1989-1995) The Untold Story of Trump Model Management (Part 1):
1989-1995 just so happens to be the same time period in which Donald Trumps world and empire was falling apart at the seams. In the beginning of the decade he was facing the end of his first marriage and a looming court battle. Despite his purportedly active dating life, by many accounts Trump was being rejected by many, if not most, of the women he pursued-including Carla Bruni and Jill Hearth. Marla Maples, after years of being the secret mistress and repeated rounds of being dumped and publicly humiliated by Trump, was starting to lose her patience. And the big gamble he took in Atlantic City was, by all accounts, failing miserably-a direct result of his jaw droppingly awful business practices and general incompetence. In 1991, his Taj Mahal Casino filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. In 1992, he again filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy again, this time on his Trump Plaza Hotel (also in Atlantic City), at the time owing $550 million dollars. Recall that he would report an almost 1 billion dollar loss on his 1995 tax returns, according to the copies obtained by the New York Times. Indeed, the early 90’s were not a very good era for Donald Trump. In light of this fact, it’s worth noting that the sexual assault allegations against him are all clustered within this very time frame. [Note: This article was written in 2016, prior to more allegations]...By the time “New York Magazine” did a front page profile of him in 1988, Casablancas reputation for bedding young models was established and begrudgingly accepted (a price to pay in exchange for his “genius”) within the New York social scene, but the expose came as a shock to many outside the bubble. John Casablancas would soon find out that he was not as untouchable as he thought he was. In the article-which ran under the title “Girl Crazy”-Casablancas was portrayed as a champagne guzzling pervert, singularly dedicated to the “new look” department of Elite where he spent his days ogling the scantily clad, sometimes naked bodies of teenage girls. In light of Donald Trump’s more alarming comments and decisions around his daughter Ivanka, this quote stands out:"Casablancas talked about his seventeen year old daughter, Cecile. He said Cecile had been solicited by a photographer last summer on a beach in Ibiza. The photographer asked her to pose in a bikini, and Casablancas raced over to try to get a $2,000 fee for the shot. “She’s got a great little body” he told his models."Another quote that brings a chuckle and a nod of recognition in this story is Casablancas’s bizarre pride over never having changed a diaper. Donald Trump would make similar boasts in a Howard Stern interview a few years later. Compelling proof this is not, but I do believe it’s a hint at the kind of Don Juan persona that Don, far from a Juan, actually a dejected, balding husband with a crumbling empire....But the scandal did not end there, nor did it begin. Less than a month earlier 60 minutes aired a prime-time special on the abuses of underage girls in the modeling industry. Investigative reporter Craig Pyes portrayed the modeling industry as infested with agents who were notorious hustlers and playboys. His report revealed that both Claude Haddad- the head of European scouting for Ford- and Ford’s Paris-based agent Jean-Luc Brunel had been accused of horrific sexual misconduct by many models. [Note: Brunel's name appears multiple times on Epstein's flight manifests.] The special aired the interviews of dozens of women who accused both Brunel and Haddad of a litany of crimes, ranging from racist invective towards black models to violent rape. And in fact the hidden camera footage captured in filming the special caught it all- from Xavier lamenting about n**er models, to Haddad chuckling about drugging and raping 13 year old girls. According to Model At a retreat soon after the one-two punch delivered by the coverage, Haddad, Jean Luc Brunel and Casablancas were once again overheard (albeit not taped this time around) laughing about their crimes. Alternatively they were angry when confronted by interim scouting manager Trudi Tapscott - ”I’m a man and I have needs, I will not apologize for that!” Casablancas is said to have declared....Over time Donald Trump would emerge from the ruins of his empire with a new approach to business, and a new source of income-in 1996 he bought the rights to the Miss Universe franchise, and became the central figure in the running of these pageants. And in 1999 he started a modeling agency - T models, later changed to Trump Model Management. The correlation of interests is quite clear-for a man awkward around women but dependent on his public image saying otherwise, a stable of women under his employ was a way to boost his image-and even better, he was able to lock all of these women into non disclosure agreements, ensuring that his behavior with them had little chance of becoming public knowledge. It also appeared to have served as a useful tool regarding his business transactions-which, in the aftermath of his bankruptcy, were increasingly dependent on some less than savory characters. How he did this, and the breadth of this activity, will be explored in the next installment. But for the time being, there is one final aspect of this story that is breathtaking, and speaks more to the character of Donald Trump than anything else.

Not really, we usually eat, shoot the shit with other drivers in the restaurant, shower, and fuel up (yes most truck stops have showers, and for the low price of 75 gallons of diesel, or 10 bucks you my friend can experience one) Some truck stops have pool tables, and a tv lounge where we can sit and watch tv with the other drivers, and some of the more dingy ones have prostitutes and drug dealers walking around, but those two are rare to find. also most truck stops have arcade style games, and depending on the gambling laws there may be a little casino...incidentally alot of casinos ave parking for big trucks
Don't forget the part about hassling the guys that work in the shop. Bahaha that too, and of course watch the rookie that decides to back in next to you even though theres a bob tail parked at the back of that spot
Lol. i worked at the TA shop in Denton, TX a few years ago. I dont trust TA to do more then an oil change, the one in Hebron, Oh changed an air dryer on my truck, and did it improperly, I lost most of my air coming down a mountain because of it.
What's a bob tail? A bob tail is a tractor with out a trailer, if you look at the picture of my rig I posted for proof, that would be a bob tail rig
Were you a company driver or owner op? I was a company Driver, although I would have liked to get up to owner op , its exspensive as all hell
Whats a lot lizard? and how do i catch one? A lot lizard is slang for a prostitute that hangs out in truck stops, though rare at most truck stops now a days, there are some dingy ones where they hangout, and they will not hesitate to knock on the sleeper while you are trying to sleep...Believe me you dont want to catch one, because when you do, you dont know what else you might catch
Once a trucker alerted me to boulder in the middle of the road, in a particularly bad downpour, saving me and the car - did you feel you have an extra responsibility on the road as a trucker? Do you have any helped someone out stories? Personally, yes, I feel like truck drivers have a responsibility to do what they can to help people stay safe on the road, we log more miles and have infinitley more experience, so doing what we can to warn other drivers that is seen as a hazard is always a good thing. I have only stopped once to help some one out, I was going across Georgia in the summer time, and it was hot as all hell out side, an elderly couple had a flat tire, and was trying to put the spare on, so I pulled on to the shoulder, gave them each a bottle of water and changed it for them. However the thing you have to be aware of is that some people will fake breaking down, or thumbing for a ride as a way to steal your rig, and whatever goodies are in the trailer. I have a strict say no to hitchhikers policy, but am always for buying them a meal, or giving them some water.
Forgive my lack of automotive terminology...What kind of transmission do you drive? Was it considerably more difficult to learn than, say, a 5 or 6 speed in a car? The trucks my company had were Manual 10 speed transmissions, I have a picture of the shift pattern somewhere, but its not that difficult to learn to shift, essentially our transmissions are two 5 speeds stacked on top of each other, with a range splitter, so there a are 5 positions for the shifter,in two ranges, gears 1-5 are splitter down (low range) and go up to about 10-12 mph, gears 6-10 (high range) are with the splitter up and go from about 12-15 mph to 65 mph (My companies trucks were governed at 62 MPH)...the only other difference is instead of single clutching I either double clutch, or float which is shifting with out a clutch, Big trucks can do this because they lack Synchros in the transmission to match up rpms
Why do you need 10 gears for a range of 62 mph? Do you double clutch in order to brake more effectively or what is the reason? What newbie said, however it is possible to single clutch a truck (although not good for it) or float the gears, where you essintially just push on the shifter at the right rpm, and don have to use the clutch
I understand that truck drivers are under tight deadlines. I also understand that loads can be heavy and braking is not something someone wants to do with a heavy load. That said, I drive cross-country frequently and it seems like lots of truck drivers take unnecessary risks on the road, from boxing in cars (again, unnecessarily) to tailgating. Why do they do this? For instance, you would understand that the center lane gives you the most options. If I'm in the center lane, and the traffic in the left lane is moving much faster than I'm driving, why do trucks push me (tailgating + high beams) into the right lane when there is a highway entry ramp coming up? I understand the rush, but you guys log so many miles, it seems like any truck driver should know better? Honestly, some drivers are just complete idiots, however most interstates place lane restrictions on us, so we are only allowed to be in the right lane or the right two lanes depending on factors like how wide the road is, and if there are any steep slopes, there really is no smart explanation for drivers that tail gate and force other drivers to do things, and some drivers think they are invincible, and above the law. Now if there is a fairly steep hill, and a driver is tailgating you going up the hill, the angle may appear to be his high beams, and he is trying to keep his speed up to keep from downshifting as long as he can, our trucks cant climb a hill or grade at high way speed when we are loaded (and some times even empty) so we have to down shift and take the loss of speed to gain the power to climb the hill...another reason a driver might tail gate is if you are going below the speed limit, or royally pissed him off, but other wise there is no good explanation for tailgating with a big truck, that driver is only going to screw himself when he gets caught...as for boxing in, its just something that happens, I have seen it done twice on purpose because the driver of the car that got boxed in was a complete jerk off to a driver, other then that three or four of us just end up in a pack, and sometimes a four wheeler thinks he can slip through and gets caught in the middle.
Thanks so much for that thoughtful reply. I really appreciate it. I'll try to be more thoughtful on the road because of it, and I'll definitely be less frustrated with bad truck drivers. Thank you. Honestly, if you see some one driving dangerously, or unsafely, get away from them, and also see if they have the company name on the truck and grab the truck number, or the trailer number, the time, and location, then find the companies phone number when you get home, and give them a ring and let them know (ask for their safety department) by reporting them you are doing everyone on the road a favor, and a possible favor for the trucking company...unless the driver has a valid reason for making an unsafe move, the company will most likely reprimand the driver in some way (probably addtional training or a road test)
I was only reported once by a driver who thought I was being unsafe, I had a load of half filled liquid barrels in my truck, and went around a curve that was posted as 55 at 45 mph because I knew the liquid was going to slosh around, my company laughed at the guy that called me in and said I was doing a good job, beacause he was just pissed that I added less then a minute to his commute
After you pee in a jug are you done with that jug or will you keep peeing into it untill it's full? And what do you do with it when it's full? Do you pitch it or empty it in a toilet or what? Depends on the situation, Yes most truckers pee in a jug at some point in their driving career, its bound to happen, me personally I always emptied the jug in a toliet asap, and then discarded it in a trash can (I know youre all thinking it should have gone in recycling, but it had my pee in it, and I doubt any one want recycled plastic that has had pee in it)
What about pooping? You stop for that right? One of my uncles was a truck driver and he said he wore a diaper but my uncle was a fucking freak so I don't know if that's all truck drivers or if it was just him. Yes most of us stop to poop, not something thats comfortable to do in a truck...although there is a story floating around about a pair of team drivers that cut a hole in the floor of the truck so they could poop going down the road, not sure of the validity of it, but it wouldn't surprise me
Where is the worst state to drive in? Craziest thing you have seen? Hmm it really depends on what you define as worst, but I would have to say Nebraska or Wyoming (no offense to any residents) its just about 400 some odd miles of nothing after going through omaha, and another 400 some odd miles through Wyoming of nothingness.
The craziest thing I have seen, was probably watching a driver that just got his cdl and first truck get to over confident trying to back up in a truck stop, and take off the side of an owner operators brand new truck, with an V sized sleeper. He hit the poor guys truck while backing up, and didnt stop, just kept going and put a giant hole all the way across the guys truck before he realized it.
Driver with 5 years OTR here...you've never been to New England apparently. Hardly any truck stops, tolls everywhere, dense urban traffic, tight roads, low clearances, bad weather, bad roads, old infrastructure in general. I enjoy actully enjoyed the New England area, I typically picked up chocolate or Ben and Jerrys out of vermont, and they both came with samples. However maine is pretty bad, but the worst thing in the north east is trying to back into a dock that wasnt designed for your truck, I had a delivery to a small warehouse in a 73 foot long truck, the distince from the dock to the wall in front of the dock was 76 feet...we ended up having to put a pallet jack in te truck and use a fork lift to get the product into the warehouse, because no driver could hit the dock
Nebraska beat out Kansas? I'd rather drive through Nebraska to get to Colorado than Kansas. (Missouri resident, where at least we have things to look at while we drive across the state) I forgot Kansas exists
What's the scariest situation you've ever been in? I have been in a lot of scary situations, probably the scariest, I got caught in a winter storm going across Nebraska with an empty trailer, high winds and the road turned to ice pretty fast. An empty trailer in high winds is like driving with a 53' sail, add in the ice, and its a recipe for disaster. I looked in my mirror and was able to read the company logo on the side of the trailer, I luckily was able to get enough speed up to keep from jack knifing, but stopped and waited it out as soon as I could safely do so.
Also driving through New York City for the first time was pretty scary
How much do you get paid? I started out at 36 cents a mile, plus a 5 cent bounus for driving a "lightweight truck" which just means a truck with a small sleeper, which is the truck in the picture I posted for proof, I later upgraded to a regular size sleeper, and lost the 5 cent bonus, I averaged 2500 miles a week as a solo driver, so I made about 900 dollars a week
Thanks dogcmp6 ... I've always wondered this. Did you ever go "all out" to make some extra $$? Does the pay-per-mile approach cause drivers to push their limits a little too much? I literlly ran my 70 hour DOT clock down to 3 minutes one week I was running so hard, but I did like 4k miles that week. The problem with being paid by the mile is that it is not enough compensation, if the truck gets held up in a dock because of a shipper or receiver they are supposed to pay detention pay depending on the contract with the trucking company, but so few actually pay it never pans out, so if the truck isnt rolling you arent making money.
What are the guidelines on passengers? Could you bring a friend with you for company/shits and giggles? It depends on the company you work for an their policy, some will allow you to bring any one on the truck as long as they are over a certain age, and some only allow you to bring immediate family, it also depends if any one has that much time to devote to coming off...remember if you have some one else on the truck, there is no personal space
Are you saving fuel (how much?) druvung close behind another truck? is this done regulary? No, you are not, the fuel savings for a four wheeler or another truck drafting a truck does not outweigh the concerns for safety, you honestly save maybe 1 percent or less of fuel through drafting, unless you are 10 feet or less off the rear of our trailer...fun fact, that big metal bumper that hangs down off the back is a mandatory piece of steel designed to stop the driver and passenger of a tailgating vehicle from losing their head in a rear end collision with a truck...I dont encourage or support drafting, it is just stupid, there are many other methods to save fuel that work much better.
All of that being said, there is a computer technology that is being tested for big trucks so that they can essentially tailgate and mimic each other exactly in order to help trucking fleets save fuel.
What other tactics save fuel? Take it easy on the accelrator, dont drive faster then you have to, watch brake lights, and practice braking early when you see a red light and keep rolling until it turns green if you can, it uses more fuel to start a vehicle moving then it does to keep it moving or get it going faster once its already moving.
You just contradicted yourself. I dont see a contradiction
Is there a valid reason why so many truck drivers insist on constantly being in the middle lane on three lane highways? I drive from Seattle to Portland 2-3 times a month and this always causes the left lane to get jammed up on I-5. Actually yes there is, the center lane is typically what is called the lane of least resistance, its going to be the lane that has the most vehicles that aren't planning to slow down, exit, or merge into it until they are keeping up with the flow of traffic, and the left lane is probably a restricted lane for commercial vehicles, so every one wants to get around us and ends up in the left lane...kinda handy if you are driving a truck, but not so much fun if you want to get around us
Yeah I figured it was something along those lines, it's just annoying at the time. More the fault of the asshole driving 65 in the left lane when the speed limit is 70. Yeah, most of us recognize that we are a rather large inconvenience on the road, but everything we buy has to get across the country one way or another, and 90 percent of everything is on a truck at some point before it ends up in your hands...the trucks the company I worked for are governed at 62, so we know were slowing everyone down, but we save on fuel, and its less wear and tear on your self and the vehicle to drive for 10 hours at a slower speed
Did you enjoy children begging you to pull the horn string or did it get old? I throughly enjoyed it, I loved pulling the air horn string, there are even college girls that flashed there boobs at me for pulling the string when they wanted me too, ok that only happened twice, but still boobies.
On the kids asking me to pull it, I always would, no one wants to deny a child happiness
I was thinking of getting my CDL and maybe doing some trucking. What's the process like towards getting your CDL and the hiring process with a trucking company? I would recommend looking at your options to obtain your cdl, for me I went through a Mega carriers cdl school (if you pm me I will shoot you a link and tell you more about them) the other option is a cdl mill or just a regular cdl school, or a community college. The process to get your get your cdl varies from state to state, but typically you have to get a CDL learners permit, which means you have to study and pass several exams, then you have to learn about the rules and regulations for CDL drivers, learn how to actually drive the truck, and take a 3 part exam for your license, the 3 part exam consists of Pre-trip inspection, Backing/Maneuvering, and a road test
Is there a lot of man on man action happening at truck stops? I'd like to think so. As a straight man, I dont know, as someone who has sat in the truck stop with the radio on, probably, there are gay truckers, just like there are gay men, and they need some lovin too
Thank you for doing this AMA. I have always wanted to be a truck driver (I'm in my mid-20's) But my primary concern has been in the confidence of driving something so big. Is it really hard to learn how to drive a truck, especially in urban areas? Or do you just learn in training and then end up acquiring the skill almost naturally? How is the pay and job market for truckers right now? I am going to tell you right off the bat, it is a fun job, and it has a great job market, but the pay varies greatly throughout the industry. it is not an easy job, it took me 4 weeks to earn my cdl, and about 3 months with a trainer to get to the point where I was driving solo, eventually it becomes like driving a car, and it is easier then you might think, the best way to learn is to get behind the wheel of one and learn, shoot me a PM if you are interested in otr, and I will give you the scoop on the company that trained me.
How much meth did you do? None, illegal drug use is absolutely not allowed in the industry, and now a days is taken pretty seriously, all companies are required to randomly and regularly screen drivers for drugs, and you risk losing your CDL and more jail time then normal if you are caught with any on the truck
What's the longest drive, in terms of miles, you've done? How do you combat highway boredom? Are the sleepers comfortable? In a single day I have done 650 miles, the longest solo run I had was just over 2500 miles, and when running teams I think our longest run was around 3500 miles
Favorite restaurants? All of the truck stops have about the same food, but there is one in Flagstaff and Wyoming called Little America that has pretty good food, and 50 cent ice cream cones, other wise I stay away from the chain truck stops and look for the mom and pop ones if I want a good meal
Do you still use the truck shortwave radio to communicate to other drivers? To plan revenge convoys and stuff. Yes, some of us still use cbs, I always used mine just to get updates on weather, road and traffic conditions along my route, and to shoot the shit with other drivers. and of course to find out what swift or england driver fucked up and rolled it in the middle of my route.
How many prostitutes have you murdered? None, but I threw a piss bottle at one that tried to break into my truck one night
How accurate is the movie "Convoy"? And did you enjoy that movie? Its not accurate, sometimes we end up packed together, but convoys of trucks are illegal now as it was used in the early years as a tactic to avoid bears (cops). That being said sometimes in High wind areas I have communicated with another driver, and arranged to run with him if he was empty and I was loaded or vice versa as a tactic to shield the empty rig from the wind.
Oh and a a stereotypical one i have to ask, are you a fan of country/western music? (Personally i'm a huge fan of it) I am a fan of country music, I prefer the older style, but there are some artists in the modern stuff I like, I like the more folky sounding artists, look up Will Hoge, and Joe Pug, you may enjoy them.
Wow, that's really insightful, thank you. And i will look them up, country is a favourite but i listen to near enough anything. Oh and one more thing, what was your handle? My cb Handle was fluffy, because its been my nickname since I was a kid ( I was using it before gabriel igalsis)
So I am curious about the effort to increase the number of CNG or LNG class 8 trucks on the road. What are the thoughts among truckers about the potential future for natural gas powered trucking? Is it as cost effective as some companies claim? In your opinion, what are its shortcomings or benefits, if any? Thanks for taking the time! I think CNG and LNG trucks are a good idea...for local runs and day cabs, due to the long fill up times, and limited range, my understanding is most of these trucks have a range of 400-600 miles, which will get you as far as you can legally drive in a day, but with the limited range on them, and the limited number of places to fuel are not viable for OTR
Elmer Fudpucker - Damn D.O.T. Link to www.youtube.com. I always laughed at that song when I was driving. 10+ years 1,000,000+ miles. :) What he said, but his link is only for part 1 of the song, heres the link for part 1&2 Link to www.youtube.com
Autopilot trucks -- will they make trucking safer or less safe? I think they are a viable solution to help with driver fatigue, and move freight faster, however I think that trucks will always need to have somebody in them, if you're shipping 100k worth of product, do you really want it unattended rolling down the road, and what if the truck breaks down, or needs to fuel up? my opinion is that computers can remove a lot of human error, but we still need humans in the cab to keep our roadways safe
What is an incredibly annoying or dangerous habit that drivers do, and what can I do to make sure I don't ruin a trucker's day? Tailgating, it annoys the hell out of me when I see a trucker tailgating a four wheeler, they should know better, the best thing to keep from ruining their day is just to give them plenty of room, and remember that they lack the ability to stop and maneuver as fast or as well as you.
Why did you decide to be a trucker? What do You do now? I dropeed out of college, and had no clue what to do with my life, as a guy i think we have all had that 6-10 year old kid in us that has always been curious about what its like to drive a big rig, so I decided to explore it, and have a year of adventure, I will say it wasnt an easy year, but damn was it worth it...right now I am in between jobs, but my girlfriend and my family wanted me home, and I want to have a life, so eventually something will come up
Find a local day trip job where you're home every night. It totally changes trucking for you. No more sleeping in a truck or gone for long times, but still the day of freedom out on the road. Ive been lookiing, but where I live, all of the local jobs involve driving in chicago, on the surface streets
Woah so you did all this within a year? Yes I did
With fuel costs being a constant factor, was there much excitement (or even chatter) about the prospect of CNG and LNG engines for trucks, like the offerings from Cummings/Westport? Not really, My personal opnion on it is that with the long fill up times for CNG and LNG , and the limited range it is only viable for local companies, where they can fill the trucks on the company yard, other wise I would just stick with diesel for now
Have you ever had a long ways to go and a short time to get there? Every damn day I was driving
How much drug testing is involved in trucking? Depends on the company, some do hair follicle testing, and some do Urine testing, but usually its a typical 5 panel test, I was tested every 2-3 months at my company, but it is a good amount.
Hey thanks for taking some questions, I honestly hate 18 wheelers because they are slow and accidents waiting to happen. But I do like stocked stores and food so I see the need for trucks, unless we drastically expand freightrail. Why do truckers insist on passing other trucks on a two lane highway when they are going essentially the same speed? Sooo frustrating. Trucks typically pass each other because the want to squeeze in every mile, but most any one who is driving knows how fast each companies truck will go, the comapny I drove for was governed at 62 MPH, so if I knew some one was governed at 61 or 60, I wouldnt try to pass them, I also always ran around 58 MPH to leave my self enough speed if I need to pass some one. some drivers are just idiots and want to have highway drag races. (Im looking at you swift and werner)
Why do truck drivers leave crazy amounts of room in front of them in traffic? Why do truckers just generally clog up highways? Only car highways has everything going so much smoother. Personally, I always left crazy amounts of room in front of me in traffic to give me time to get in, and also because cars are going to weave in and out in front of you, so why risk the accident, when you can just give them the room to screw around, also if you have a cushion it helps keep traffic moving.
Unfortunately I cant explain why we clog up high ways, typically we drive slower then cars, so that may be why, and a few states have tried to do trucks theses lanes only and cars these lanes only...but the four wheelers dont pay any attention and would always end up in the truck lanes, and cause issues
Have you ever had to use a runaway truck ramp? If so, was it scary? I've always seen them when driving through West Virgina. I personally have not had to use one, and if you do lose control of a vehicle and have to use one the fines are massive, however if it is your last resort or only resort use it when you have a chance. they are just very lose sand/gravel designed to stop anything that hits it safely
Can you talk to any trucker you see on the radio? Is it distance proximity to pick up signal? It depends on the CB set up in your car and the rig you are trying to communicate, it also depends on if the driver even has a CB now a days and has it on, but typicaly with a decent legal cb set up you can get 1-3 miles
Have you seen Rampart? I have not
So the time limits are really strict? I thought truckers were all driving around with dual log books and other tricks to evade the duty time rules. Can you explain who duty times are enforced? Thanks. Yes, time limits can be really strict depending on the shippers contract with the receiver, some drivers do use dual log books to get around this, but they are just screwing themselves, our trucks had elogs on our qualcomm (which is a device on our dash that lets us email dispatch, and runs our clocks for us, kinda handy) the DOT and police can enforce duty times, and we have to hand them our logs if they ask for them...we are allowed 14 hours on duty and 11 hours of drive time, so once you start moving for the day you have 14 hours to drive out your 11, you then have to take a 10 hour break. However even with elogs you can cheat the system by going off duty when you should be on duty, as long as you arent driving this seems to work.
Why did you get out of the industry? Mainly I got out of the industry because of my dispatcher, and my company refusing to let me get on another load board, I was teaming with another guy where we should have been getting 6-7k miles per week, and we were only getting 3k miles per week (teaming the truck makes the same as a solo driver, but the mileage pay is then split 50-50 between the two drivers) besides that, when you drive OTR, the highway and your truck is your life, you go weeks, even months without seeing your family, and it is an extremely high stress and dangerous job.
Is it true that once on the job you instantly start fullfilling trucker stereotypes (mannerisms, slamming mugs down, talking with a rough crude voice, talking almost completely in 3 digit numbers and having rough hands)? If so how does this change happen so suddenly, and how do you stop being all truckerlike when you get home? You dont fulfill the stereotypes right away, but with anything when you are around certian things long enough you do fulfill some sterotypes, but it defintley isnt a sudden change...and as for when your home, well once its in your blood, its in there for good
Have you had any less-than-desirable interactions with police? What kind of measures, if any, do you take to avoid police attention? I personally have not, I had one interaction with a dot officer who pulled me into a scale, but he really didnt care he just wanted to check my paper work. I typically just drove right, avoided having an accident, and never brought attention to my self
Freightliner or Peterbuilt? Depends, I like the style of the peterbilts, but the freightliner is just a lot more comfortable, easier to move around in, and set up better then a pete to cook in, and with the introduction of DEF fluid to big trucks in the past few years, Freightliners have had less issues with the system then petes.
Backing up with trailer you have to steer the truck in the opposite direction of your intended direction for the trailer... how do you reverse and steer with two trailers? It takes a lot of skill to back up a double, my understanding is you can pretty much only go straight back, if you want to back any where else you have to play musical trailers and move them one at a time
Last time I passed through Georgia I saw a ton of "light touch massage parlors". Are those really whore houses and did you use them? Some are "happy ending" massage parlors, theres a few trucking forums with a list that are actual whore houses/happy ending parlors, and those that are legit, but I never used one
1) Why only a year? 2) Reasons why someone should go into trucking 3) Reasons why someone should stay away! I only did for a year because that was my contract with the company I went through for CDL school, It is a great job if you want to see the country, and have some freedom in your day to day life, honestly there are only 3 things most companies care about, and that is that you are a safe driver (by their standards or your driving record standards...not a fool proof system) that you keep your clocks legal (ok not all companies care about this) and that you make your appointments on time, other then that you have all of the freedom in the world, so not a bad gig. However the downside is you can have extremly tight deadlines, it is very high stress and exhausting to drive a truck for 10-11 hours a day as you have to be focused the whole time you are moving, and it takes some time to work on your skill, and if you get cocky or over confident you will screw your self...also its not a steady check week to week, you can have a 3k mile week followed by a 700 mile week if you break down, or if the company dosent have enough freight.
