What’s the difference between Brave and Chrome?
Sampson | brave.com @BraveSampson The difference is we don't track you, or attempt to track you online. We block third party ads & trackers to protect your identity. We also block crypto-mining, malware, phishing, and more by default. And we integrate blockchain support to support your favorite sites anonymously.
3:21 PM - Sep 28, 2018
Sampson | brave.com @BraveSampson Brave and Chrome utilize the same core engines (Blink and V8), which are used by many other projects as well. With brave-core, we are now using the same Skia logic for our UI. For now, we share many common UI elements. But that will change as brave-core matures.

Is sync coming sooner rather than later?
Brian R. Bondy @brianbondy Aiming for official release in Nov. But we'll see it land sooner. Brendan is right about mobile being the done part. 8:42 AM - Sep 29, 2018

Hmmm… Could Brave Android come to Chromebooks?
BrendanEich @BrendanEich Never say never... more immediate: a big-display version of Brave Android tuned for Chromebooks. 8:01 PM - Sep 29, 2018

Does Google Benefit from Ad Fraud? (Three parts!)
BrendanEich @BrendanEich Google does benefit from fraud. It got ~60% of $80B in 2017 via fees. Assume 20% fraud per @acfou. Zeroing fraud cuts G rev by >= $9.6B, material. Standards lately dominated by Google. Individually, fine people, many friends. Yet hard to work on this problem in standards process.
1:09 AM - Sep 30, 2018

BrendanEich @BrendanEich Replying to @__anoop and 3 others See https://www.slideshare.net/augustinefou/state-of-digital-ad-fraud-q2-2018/ …, Dr. Fou's estimate for fraud take in 2017 was $16.2B. Take goes to fake publishers w/ botnet or cloud fake users. Exchanges & other intermediaries turn blind eye cuz they take fee if buy side is fooled. Similarly, malware put in cheap slots pays fees. Sep 30, 2018

BrendanEich @BrendanEich To recap, money flows from buy side brands thru agencies, DSPs, exchanges, SSPs, any buy or sell side DMPs, finally to publisher if real. But fraud consists of fake pubs fooling antifraud scripts, stealing net due to real pub. Intermediaries get paid if fraudster does. Pubs lose. 1:26 AM - Sep 30, 2018

What’s after Brave? Sharing Attention Token with other apps.
BrendanEich @BrendanEich As our roadmap (update delayed but soon) says, we will share @attentiontoken with other apps after proving the model in Brave. We are realists about not taking over a market, rather uniting lead users to move standards, regulators, the world to a better iteration of the Web.
5:23 PM - Oct 1, 2018

Brave is building a better model, fits GDPR, and with less fraud.
BrendanEich @BrendanEich Sure the current model needs tracking; the question before us is whether there is a better model w/ GDPR required user consent (no cookiewall duress) that is less fraud-filled. Brave using the BAT is building one, could be others. No tracking, local data/ML matches ad in catalog.
5:26 PM - Oct 1, 2018

Some publishers see 40% revenue share. Brave wants to give 70%.
BrendanEich @BrendanEich From publishers we talk & work with, this 40% programmatic rev-share to publishers is optimistic. As noted it does not include fraud clawbacks. A far cry from 70% (app stores, Brave). 7:13 PM - Oct 1, 2018
Brave Software @brave "I believe that it is not tenable for any platform, publisher, technology vendor, or trade body, to claim that they must track people in order to generate revenue from advertising." @BrendanEich writes to the US Senate about why GDPR is a model to pursue. https://brave.com/us-gdpr-senate/ 4:48 PM - Oct 1, 2018

It’s one thing to say “don’t be evil.” “Can’t be evil” is a different level. :)
Sampson | brave.com @BraveSampson There's so much more (one tweet never does it justice), but that's enough to communicate our goal of "Can't be evil," vs the familiar "Don't be evil." We wish to build solutions in such a way that we couldn't abuse the user's trust, even if we wanted to. Plus we're OS, auditable.

BAT/Brave in the News:

Brave CEO Pens Letter to Senate Committee Asking for GDPR-Like Privacy Regulation
Brendan Eich, the CEO of Brave, has written a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation urging them to implement GDPR-like legislation in the United States.
GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation and works to secure the data and privacy of all individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area ( EEA ). In addition, it addresses the exporting of personal data outside these two organizations. GDPR seeks to give individuals control over their personal information and simplify the regulatory atmosphere for international business ventures.
Based in San Francisco, Brave is a new kind of browser that allegedly offers users faster speeds and stronger security by blocking trackers and advertisements. In his letter, Eich describes GDPR as a "great leveler" and says it has allowed many new businesses in Europe to flourish by preventing larger, more established corporations from disadvantaging them.
"The GDPR's principle of 'purpose limitation' will begin to prevent dominant platforms from using data that they have collected for one purpose at one end of their business to the benefit of other parts of their business in a way that currently disadvantages new entrants," Eich writes.

Basic Attention Token (BAT) Overview: 4 million MAU, co-op with Civic and regular AMAs with community
The project recently passed 4 million monthly active users, with over 21 thousand verified publishers on board as well. To celebrate these milestones, Brave organized a community contest called “Best of the Brave”. Brave Browser recently announced their intention to cooperate with a decentralized digital identification platform called Civic on matters related to the verification of publishers. Continuing the AMA tradition they’ve recently started, BAT will hold another one on October 4th. This time, the questions can be directed at David Temkin, Chief Product Officer at Brave and the man responsible for delivering the Brave browser product to consumers. The question submitting thread can be found here. BAT project will hold a public meet-up in Pennsylvania, USA on October 16th, where the visitors will be given a chance to review the Brave Browser and BAT tokens, how they work and how will they be used in the future.

Google Privacy Flaws Set Up An Opportunity For Brave and Basic Attention Token
Google has again been criticized for breaching user data in collecting private user information. Now according to Matthew Green, a professor at Johns Hopkins University and team member of ZCash, Google is using new, and potentially unprincipled methods for its data collecting.
According to the professor, Google is breaching trust using Chrome. This breach could be setting up Brave browser for wide adoption. As more users look to keep their information private, comes the need for browsers like Brave. The browser offers a safer and potentially more secure browsing experience.

News You Should Know:

Europe is drawing fresh battle lines around the ethics of big data
It’s been just over four months since Europe’s tough new privacy framework came into force. You might believe that little of substance has changed for big tech’s data-hungry smooth operators since then — beyond firing out a wave of privacy policy update spam, and putting up a fresh cluster of consent pop-ups that are just as aggressively keen for your data.
But don’t be fooled. This is the calm before the storm, according to the European Union’s data protection supervisor, Giovanni Buttarelli, who says the law is being systematically flouted on a number of fronts right now — and that enforcement is coming.

Irish privacy watchdog to investigate Facebook data breach
Ireland’s data protection authority is expected to launch a formal investigation into the Facebook data breach affecting 90 million people worldwide, the first major test of Europe’s new data protection rules, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

Brave Browser CEO Calls for GDPR Laws in U.S.
On September 28, 2018, Brendan Eich, CEO of Brave, and co-founder of Mozilla Firefox wrote to the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation to encourage the adoption of a General Data Protection Regulation.
In the letter, Eich compels the US Senate to consider a European style model which allows for greater protection of the data of private citizens. He calls the GDPR a “great leveler” which will enable companies like his own to compete at a high level in the marketplace.

A manager avoids conflicts. On the contrary, a leader uses conflicts as an asset. — The manager does things right; the leader does the right thing. Perhaps there was a time when the calling of the manager and that of the leader could be separated. A foreman in an industrial-era factory probably didn’t have to give much thought to what he was producing or to the people who were producing it. The aim of this review is to determine the differences between management and leadership. The result of this review showed that management and leadership are two very distinct functions. A manager relies on control, whereas a leader inspires trust: A leader is a person who pushes employees to do their best and knows how to set an appropriate pace and tempo for the rest of the group. Managers, on the other hand, are required by their job description to establish control over employees, which, in turn, helps them develop their assets to bring out their best. The leader ensures trust and results whereas the manager represents control and authority: A leader has to be someone who can be the inspiration for others, on whom the team can show its trust and confidence. He has to be the one who can appropriately set the tempo and pace of his group. The article made me do it. I didn't plan to write this article. I didn't want to write yet another thing about the definition, value and distinctions of management and leadership. Being an excellent manager doesn’t make someone a strong leader. We’ve all run into someone who uses the titles interchangeably, and it can be frustrating. Knowing the difference leadership vs management helps you understand your role in your organization. By recognizing the difference, you can sharpen your abilities so that you can reach The main difference between leaders and managers is that leaders have people follow them while managers have people who work for them. A successful business owner needs to be both a strong leader and manager to get their team on board to follow them towards their vision of success. Leadership is about getting people to understand and believe in
