Any Nintendo Switches in stock in town?

I’m bummed, I drove to a Target that indicated online they were in stock, but they aren’t. Anyone know where some may be in stock?
Update: Found some at the Walmart on Dunvale, for anyone wondering the same. Also, Target on Westheimer does have some Lites in stock, but will release them “first come first serve” the morning of the 10th.

Why Superman 64 is objectively better than Pokemon Sword and Shield

  1. Superman 64 looks like it had actual effort put into the models and stuff, Superman's model looks really accurate unlike anything in Sword and Shield every single thing in Sword and Shield looks like an Atari 2600 game, no exceptions, none. The models in Sword and Shield OBJECTIVELY look like Atari 2600 models! And if you don't think that, you're not a Pokemon fan, unlike me!
  2. In Superman 64 Lex Luthor makes Superman fly through rings and pick up cars, which is engaging gameplay, objectively unlike Sword and Shield's crappy crappy bad gameplay, it pales in comparison! It is so sad that a licenced Nintendo 64 game does everything better than Sword and Shield! I would rather fly through rings a hundred times then do a crappy boring Max Raid battle!
  3. Superman 64 has the National Dex! National Dex Luthor that is! Yes, I know Superman 64 doesn't have the National Dex but it does in my heart. Every game in existence has the National Dex in my heart except for Sword and Shield which doesn't. Sword and Shield objectively bad.
  4. The controls in Superman 64 are good they're not in Sword and Shield I'm correct because I'm correct
  5. Sword and Shield is piss easy you can beat it in less than one second but Superman 64 has CHALLENGE! It's hard to fly through the rings against the time limit because of the good controls and the instructions for picking up the cars only appear for a few seconds so you have to use your bigbrain but Sword and Shield makes you dumb because it autoplays you don't even move the sticks, unless JoyCon drift which is Game Freak's fault YES IT IS NOT NINTENDO'S FAULT IT'S SPECIFICALLY GAME FREAK AND SWSH'S FAULT, MASUDA PERSONALLY CAME TO MY HOUSE AND ORDERED ZACIAN AND ZAMAZENTA TO MAKE MY JOYCONS DRIFT
  6. Superman 64 was not made by Game Freak which automatically makes it better because Game Freak bad
  7. Superman 64 only costs £30 used, and a Nintendo 64 costs £100 used, but Sword and Shield cost £45 each new, that's £90, plus £27 each for DLC, plus Nintendo Switch online which Game Freak sets the price for obviously, plus the Nintendo Switch new we have to be fair we did compare the price of a used Nintendo 64 to a new Switch, and we have to play it on Switch not Switch lite because we won't be able to see how bad the graphics are, plus a TV, plus internet, plus your house, plus your furniture, plus the money your parents spent raising you to be at least 7 years old to play the game, it adds up! That makes Superman 64 £130 and Sword and Shield £ilostcountbutitsbig EACH. That makes Superman 64 worth the money and Sword and Shield not worth the money.
In conclusion, Sword and Shield doesn't even qualify as shit! It's like the equivalent of shit takin' a shit! It is unspeakably, shockingly bad. It's sickeningly LOATHSOME! It's a fuckin' suffering to the mind! It's a bunch of fuck, and it doesn't belong on this planet! And that's why I am setting out to destroy every copy of Sword and Shield and if it's digital deleting it and taking it down from the eShop, we should replace all copies of Sword and Shield with Superman 64 and the world would be so much better and everybody would be so much happier!

Thank You!

I have been playing since August for the very first time, I got a switch (lite) just to play this game. I am not usually very comfortable interacting online (anxiety issues) but I got to the point I needed assistance to get any further in my islands development.
At that time I was lucky enough to find this reddit group.
I want to thank everyone who has assisted me with cataloguing, DIYS, letting me shop and inspiring me. Also everyone who can draw/style who have given us their wonderful designs to use. I couldn't have done any of this myself.
So thank you for being here. I will continue to try and give back as much help as you given me.
Edit: oh my, I posted this just before going to sleep last night. Woke up to all these lovely replies and awards. Thank you so much. I am so pleased to know we are all so happy here.

Brief thoughts on the ~50 games and DLC I Played in 2020

Let me preface this by saying that I am hardly a patient gamer as I often play the latest big titles as they are released, especially those that have the possibility of being heavily spoiled. However, I will still go back to playing older titles that I might have missed or replaying my favorites.
I don't think I could've ever played this much in any other year. In past years, I'd be lucky to play 6-7 titles per year. Granted I am fortunate to be able to work from home, and normally I'd have a 2.5 hour daily commute, which I'd be too tired to play games after work. Not sure If I'll ever top the amount played in 2020, but it was fun and I am glad to have explored all these worlds in such a crappy year.

We keep all of our Pokémon in Pokémon Bank, are we paranoid?

Ok I’ll make this quick I got a question...are me and my friend paranoid? We all know that for some bs reason there’s no backup for Pokémon on the switch meaning if your game is gone it’s gone my friend lost over 700 hours of gameplay and most of his mons (save for the ones in Pokémon Home) after his Switch Lite just shutdown on him one day. He begrudgingly beat the game again but now keeps ALL Pokémon he finds in the game in Pokémon Home. A few weeks ago while playing online with my friends my TV short circuited on me and stopped working. I heard a loud pop and it started smoking and immediately I panicked and thought it was my Switch but thankfully it wasn’t, but that got me paranoid as well because what happened to my friend is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, so now I do the same thing I keep everyone in box (save for a few strong mons who can handle themselves). What do you guys think? Are we being paranoid?
Edit: MY MISTAKE! I completely didn’t realize I said Pokémon Bank instead of Pokémon Home! We keep all of our mons in Pokémon Home sorry about that.
SN: One more thing I also read the story of the poor guy who also lost 700+ hours of gameplay after he got mugged and his Switch got stolen when he was coming home on the train so that’s also another factor in this.

Help me understand this please?

EDIT: Thank you all for the outpouring of helpful information!!! I have set up a Nintendo account, and then added user profiles for each child, complete with the parental controls app so I can monitor playtime and activity.
I do have two games, a Harry Potter game and Animal Crossing. I think I'll be paying the $35 fee for a family online account since there seems to be a general concensus that there are many free games there, and sales I can take advantage of when they pop up. We will try it for a year, and see how it goes.
Again, thank you, I'm super grateful for all the help I've been given. Merry Christmas!
Hi Reddit friends,
I am a mom who has had very little exposure to video games. I don't know anything about setting up consoles or profiles.
My kiddos (10 and 7) were begging for a switch or switch lite all year, and I finally found 2 switch lites, just in time for Christmas. They're going to be thrilled, and I can't wait to see their faces!
My problem: the last time I played Mario of any kind was in the early 90's and it was a simple, put in the cartridge and play the game. Now, there is wifi involved, a play store type thing? Profiles? Some games only work with internet? There is a yearly membership?
Can someone please explain these things to me? I don't want to get suckered into paying tons of money for memberships and things that the kids won't use or get a lot of use out of. They are not huge gamers, they're young kids.
What do you suggest for a 10 year old and 7 year old who have played a regular switch before at their friends house and have basic knowledge of how to use it?
Thank you so much in advance for any help. I'm feeling really out of my comfort zone right now!

Opinion: Nintendo should port over Wii Sports Club from the Wii U to fill the Wii Sports void on the Switch.

Opinion: Nintendo should port over Wii Sports Club from the Wii U to fill the Wii Sports void on the Switch.
Many people have been looking for a new Wii Sports style game on Switch, so my idea was that Nintendo should port over Wii Sports Club from the Wii U, as they've done with many other Wii U games.

The game I'm talking about if you're unaware.
If you don't know what it is, Wii Sports Club is essentially a remaster of Wii Sports with a few enhancements like Gamepad functionality, and the big one: Online play.
Now, there would obviously be a few hurdles to overcome in making this come to Switch.
  1. The Gamepad functionality. Several sports, such as baseball for pitching and outfielding, and golf, for swinging, relied on the Gamepad. There's a few solutions I thought of; One, they could just make these sports more similar to the original Wii versions and just remove the Gamepad sections entirely, or two, they just re-do them to work better with the Switch's motion controls.
  2. The name. It has "Wii" in it. I have a few solutions to this, too. One, as many have suggested, simply rename it to "Mii Sports" or "Nintendo Sports", or two, just leave the name be. Nintendo proved with the port of New Super Mario Bros. U that they aren't afraid to leave parts in the name that would imply it is for another console, so I think them leaving "Wii" in the title isn't too crazy.
  3. How would it work in handheld mode? My idea was that it just flat out wouldn't work in handheld, and only work in tabletop and docked.
Now, hurdles out of the way, what would be great about a port of Wii Sports Club?
  1. I think this one is rather obvious. As stated, it would help fill the gap in casual Wii Sports like games that 1-2-Switch and Clubhouse Games couldn't fill.
  2. Having online on Wii Sports Club would be much better on Switch than it ever was on Wii U. Allow me to explain, due to the low userbase of the Wii U, it was hard to get online matches, even around when the game released (This is just based on my experiences, it may differ for you.), so having it on Switch would mean (assuming the game sells well) that it would be much easier to get online matches, which would be great!!
  3. Wii Sports styled games make sense on the Switch. The motion controls on the Switch are much better than they ever were on the Wii, which could mean games like boxing would finally control great!
  4. Now here's the big one: A success of a Wii Sports Club port would prove to Nintendo that people are still willing to buy a Wii Sports style game, which could mean we would get more Wii Sports styled games, like maybe a new Wii Party, a Wii Play Motion sequel, or the best thing humanity could hope for; a Wii Sports Resort sequel!!!
Anyways, those are just my thoughts on a Wii Sports Club port. I want to hear what you guys think about this, so please let me know what you think about a potential Wii Sports Club port! :)
EDIT: I was trying to respond to everybody when this post first appeared, but I can't do that now that I just woke up and there is 132 notifications, haha. Sorry.
Also, I should add this: I'm not asking for a port over a new game, read past the title. I want a Wii Sports Club port so it proves to Nintendo people will still buy Wii Sports styled games, and they will make more. Also, I don't want it to be 60$. I'm not even sure where you guys got that from. The original (digital) version was 50$ for all the sports, so that would make more sense.
EDIT 2: If I had a dollar for every time somebody commented "No more ports" without actually reading the post I'm fairly certain I'd have enough to buy a Switch Lite........

FAQ to help new users know where to start and what software to choose

Q. Can my Switch / Serial number be hacked? A. Check here: https://ismyswitchpatched.com/ If it shows as unpatched then its hackable out of the box, regardless of firmware. If its patched then you will need a modchip. ALL Mariko (red box) and Lites are patched.

Q. How do I mod my hackable system? I don't know what guides to use
A. Use this guide specifically for entering RCM. Do not use this guide to set up cfw if you intend to pirate games, it does not include things like sigpatches or installers which you will need. Use Birb's guide to set up your modded system once you are in RCM. Do NOT use video guides. They are generally full of misinformation, outdated information, bad advice and stupid configurations.

Q. How do I prevent bans? A. Keep your sysnand completely clean, only use homebrew/backup games on your emunand and make sure you either have incognito installed on the emunand or its completely offline.

Q. What is an emunand? A. Its essentially a copy of your system that can be modified separately of the original. If you install homebrew to one of them it wont affect the other. Emunand is NOT the same as cfw.

Q. What happens if I get banned? A. Youll lose access to playing games online and accessing the eshop. Generally accounts are not banned and you can still update the system through nintendo, although this is discouraged.

Q. How do I update? A. Download the latest compatible firmware here https://lmgtfy.app/?q=darthsternie Extract to a folder on your sd card, named firmware for example. Then select the folder in your updater app (for atmosphere its recommended you use daybreak, for sxos choidujournx is the usual app). Choose the exfat firmware regardless of sd format.

Q. What format should my sd card be? A. Fat32

Q. But how do I install big games from a fat32 sd card? A. Most people either install over a usb cable (with tinfoil and nut or awoo and nsusbloader) or over shops. If you dont have a usb cable, ftp works as well.

Q. What are shops? A. Shops are basically online collections of games that you can browse and install similarly to how you would on the eshop. They are accessed through tinfoil.

Q. What cfw should I choose? What are the pros and cons? A. Atmosphere is the popular choice right now. Its pros include being free, constantly updated and having a lot of community support. Its cons include not having any out of the box support for installing games, so you need to add sigpatches yourself once they are out.
Sxos is another popular option, and the only option currently for modchip units (although atmosphere is working on support). Its pros include being made directly for piracy, so it supports installing games out of the box and it can load off of external hard drives. Its cons include being paid and being a questionable choice at the moment. Due to multiple members of the group being arrested its unclear if it will receive much more support.
The last modern cfw is reinx. Reinx works out of the box with games and it is free. However it is now no longer being updated and it has fewer features than atmosphere.

Q. Where do I get games from? A. For shops you should check out JITS and Quota shop. Those should provide you with easy and safe access to games. Rebirth is discord server that provides gdrive and tor links to full game stashes for download on pc. Theres multiple websites you can find by googling, and you can find large libraries via torrents. Most torrents and websites will be hosting 'scene' dumps, groups like venom or suxxors, who release privately to ftp servers with other scene groups. These dumps get rehosted to private torrent trackers, and then websites will upload them publicly.

Q. Why are my downloads failing? A. You should probably ask the source of the download. If thats a shop then join the shop discord to ask.

Q. Why wont my switch boot? A. Most likely its in rcm, try injecting a payload. If its not in rcm then its probably just out of battery. Bricking the switch canNOT prevent it from accessing rcm and hekate, so if you cant get into hekate then it isnt bricked. Youre doing something wrong or you broke the physical hardware.

Q. Can I transfer save files between sysnand and emunand? A. Yes. Transferring from sysnand to emunand is easy. When you make the emunand the saves should transfer automatically. After that you can go offline on the sysnand, make a nand backup, run cfw on it to dump the save and then restore the backup. This way the nand will be completely clean. For going the other way around its a bit harder. You can dump the sysnand and inject the same on your computer into the nand before restoring it, but this cannot guarantee you wont get banned.

Q. How do I unhack my switch? A. If you use emunand then its as simple as not booting into rcm. If you use autorcm then disable it in hekate. If you do not use emunand then youll need to format your console with something like this https://github.com/StarDustCFW/Haku33

Q. What are the different game formats? A. The 'standard' format people most often use is nsp. This is the common format used for eshop games. Another common format is xci, which is a gamecart dump. Any cfw can install nsps OR xci to the console to run like an eshop game. However, sxos can also mount xci as if it was a gamecart instead of installing it to the home screen if thats something youre interested in. There is also nsz and xcz, which are compressed versions of nsp and xci which save space and bandwidth. They can be directly installed, the same as nsp and xci, so they are considered objectively better.

Q. What installer should I use? A. Currently theres a few popular installers. The most popular right now is tinfoil, which can be found at tinfoil.io. It has the most features of any of the installers, being able to run shops, manage save games and cheats, link accounts, install incognito, hdd support and much more. It supports installing any of the 4 game formats mentioned above.
Next we have awoo. Awoo is a popular installer that is based on adubbz tinfoil's install code and xortrolls gui. It is the most popular lightweight installer, being able to support every format the same as tinfoil. An alternative to this program would be tinleaf which is also based on the tinfoil install code and xortrolls gui, giving it a similar feel and functionality but without the anime girl theme.
Lastly of the currently used installers we have goldleaf, which is xortrolls spiritual successor to tinfoil. Goldleaf has some features the other two lack, such as a web browser. However it supports the fewest formats, only nsp, and unlike tinfoil and awoo it wont check if a game is modified before installing, so it would be easier to accidentally install a malicious file using goldleaf.

How can a Nintendo Switch Pro compete with the Series S and PS5 Digital? Let alone the "full" versions of those consoles? A dedicated "Switch Pro", makes no sense business wise.

I'm mostly going off of UK prices here, the Switch sells for £300, that's about $410. In contrast, the xbox series S is £250 ($340), which is a way more powerful console, with more storage, bigger games, better online etc etc. It's not portable, but you can stream it to your phone, it can kinda do portable. This is ignoring the crazy value presented by game pass, The PS5 digital is £360, which is the price of a Switch + 1 game. For your money you get way more. So how is a Switch pro gonna compete? The Switch and Switch lite have a niche, they're cheaper (in the US), and more convenient. However, a "Switch pro" becomes a much harder sell if it's more than £300/$300, which it likely will be. Assuming the switch pro is £350, I just can't see it selling well. Casual Gamers will just opt for the OG Switch or the Lite, hardcore games will likely just get one of the "bigger" consoles and maybe a switch in addition. However, a Switch pro wouldn't really have a market expect for the few die hard nintendo fans who want to experience nintendo games in the best quality. Cloud games like hitman and control could help, but if the OG switch and Lite can play them, what's the point of the pro?

I'm just thinking aloud here, I'd personally buy a switch pro if it meant more "big" AAA games like Assassins Creed and Battlefield because I love the switch and it's convenience, but if a next gen system has the same convenience (fast loading times, being able to suspend games, quiet console etc). What's the point of buying a switch Pro for those games?

The Witcher 3 Renewed My Love of the Switch

I bought a Nintendo Switch a little over a year ago with a gift card I was given. With it, I bought Breath of the Wild, and a handful of indie games I wanted on a handheld device. At first I was a fan, but slowly I grew more frustrated with my experience. That is, until, I played The Witcher 3 on it. Let me explain...
Why a Lite and not a regular Switch? I have two kids under 3 and have little to no time to play games anymore. I have an Xbox One with GamePass Ultimate that I used to play regularly, but that’s fallen to the wayside and for the first time in 10 years I’m letting my Xbox subscription end. I was playing games more on my iPhone than anywhere else because I could pick it up and stop very quickly. And that was the appeal of the Lite: play at my pace, wherever I wanted, without being beholden to a TV or a separate controller.
I’m really into games with depth (western style RPGs), some RTS, and some FPS games. I never really got into the JRPG genre and have never been a fan of the gacha element some games offer. The Switch Lite would allow me to play the handful of games I really wanted to try by playing it on my time - when the kids and wife allow it.
What made me love the Switch? When I first played BotW, I was in love. Despite what some critics say, I found the game to be glorious as it allowed me to explore and adventure at my pace. And even on its tiny screen and with some of the limitations of the Lite, I still enjoyed every moment. So much so that I grinded away and went after almost every achievement (I didn’t bother finding all the korok seeds and one or two other things). I was almost sad to put that game away, but I was also content. The journey was worthwhile.
I saw my game library (digital only) grow quite quickly. I enjoyed Phoenix Wright (fun writing), Played through two houses in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, enjoyed quirky indies like Golf Story, and rediscovered classic gems on a handheld device like Doom and soon I’ll play The Bioshock Collection (played 1 in the past but never 2 and Infinite). But something was bothering me.
What kept my love at bay? Nintendo at its best is a magical experience that brings a smile to your face. This is due to the love they put into their games, story telling style, and their unique twists on a modern day console. However, when you compare Nintendo to its completion - at least, on paper - it’s a different story. Some of this still bothers me. Some examples.
Why is the Witcher special?
I’ve owned The Witcher 3 on Xbox GPU and even got a free copy on PC. When it came out on the Switch I paid attention to the reviews but scoffed at the price. The game is exactly what I love to play, but it’s also a huge investment. I know that it’s a rewarding experience, but again: life gets in the way. I can’t sit at the PC or Xbox and play it casually on my time. I get distracted all the time.
Finally, after talking to so many other gamers and friends who constantly were raving about this as one of their top games of all time, I decided to just do it. I bought the digital version at a slight discount (still far more than other platforms), and I started playing it casually.
The Witcher 3 is a wonderful port. CD Project Red despite their issues with Cyberpunk 2077 right now Saber Interactive did an absolutely glorious job at finding a balance of making the game feel like a first party Switch title, and not hampering the performance. I know, I know, people rightfully take issue with the graphics when connected to a TV and what not, but that’s not the point. If I wanted to play on a screen, I could on another platform. This game works perfectly on my Lite. I am immersed in it and I can stop and pick up at any moment throughout the day. I still have so much to do, but I’m finding myself go after every side quest and sub plot that I can - just like in BotW. It’s this form factor that allows me to easily battle enemies with the built in joy cons. It’s this form factor that has me loving games and wanting me to do nothing else but pick it back up. It’s glorious. Now I’m sure there are many of you who bought this game and didn’t enjoy playing it on a larger screen. I can imagine the disappointment with that, but at the same time - what more could you expect from a console that isn’t meant to be a powerhouse? At least the developer tried to deliver the experience on this platform.
TL;DR: Despite all of its flaws, the Switch really nailed an immersive experience that I needed in my gaming life, and I’m thankful to Nintendo for it. Also thank you to CD Project Red Saber Interactive for delivering an excellent port of a game that feels like it was meant to be on a portable device like the Switch.
EDIT: AmIajerk1625 pointed out that Saber Interactive did the port. Fixed above.
EDIT2: This post really seems to have struck a nerve with people on this subreddit. My intent was simply to share my experience of how I’ve been struggling to stay in love with this console, but this game made me realize why I love it. I suppose honest criticisms of the console aren’t welcome here.

What I expected vs what I got. (Rant/My personal thoughts & feelings.)

What I wanted: A fucking solid RPG. In the vein of mass effect in terms of decisions, with heavy rpg elements, a interactive world where I had actual side activities to do instead of a one off side stories. I wanted to immerse feel like V was me in this cyberpunk universe, where I'm a mercenary who started from humble beginnings and built myself up into a legend of night city. I wanted the world to be interactive where I could go to a restaurant order some food, then hit up a bar order a drink. I wanted to visit the various shops, trying on clothes, previewing then buying testing out new weapons, and spending some time just chilling out in the shopping areas maybe a mall or two.
I wanted deep character engagements. I wanted the characters that met on my way up could be a ally or a potential foe, depending on their motives and personal beliefs. I expected these characters I met to not trust me initially as I was a outsider and that I had to earn their trust and loyalty by doing jobs for them, calling them, spending time with them by going to the bar and getting a drink with them or to a nightclub for some dancing and fun. I was hopeful about getting to know the gangs and build up a rapport with them, outside of just the stereotypical "Gangs are bad now shoot them!" Mentality. Where each gang had a ally/romance option (One for males and females) exclusive to that gang. A special shop were you could buy gang attire, a cosmetic station where you could buy gang haircuts, tattoos, ect. A gang ripper doc who would argument your cybernetics with the visual ascetic of that gang. And finally a gang gunsmith where you could buy guns with that gangs specific visual skins on that weapon and special mods exclusive to that gang.
I wanted actually deep romances were I met this character, and sure we might or started out on less than good terms. Though by doing missions, calling them to chat, hanging out with them outside of missions, inviting them on nights out on the town, bringing them along on jobs with me and dealing with their reactions to my actions while on the job that I'd get to know them and they me. After a couple of flings together we'd start to realize that it's something more than a one off fling as we grow closer and in naturally develops into a relationship. They would call me asking how I'm doing, text me cute little messages with the occasional picture attached to it. You know the little things. And when I go into battle they come with me as a loyal and trusted ally. Not only do they give you a key to their place, they let you drive their car, and unlock a bonus or two to help you while you are on jobs. Then they have dynamic missions that pop up, maybe they want to you to participate in a race with them, go dancing at a nightclub, help someone they grew up with, perhaps they get kidnapped and need to be rescued, maybe they want to kidnap someone and hold them for random, or something from video from there past relationship with a ex is about to be leaked online and they ask you to help stop it.
What I got: A action games that feels like a cod campaign in a open world with a meh story were I'm essentially the opposite of a ghost in a shell, I'm the shell for a ghost, granted a decent looking shell, but still a shell. To add to that some extra bit of meat to this stew:
I do not feel immersed in the role of V, because V is nothing like the character I wanted to be or play as. V or Vincent (Which you really could of left it as just the mysterious sounding and unique in its own way...V) doesn't feel like a character I would deem worthy of immersing into the role of, he (I played as a male) flips from being nice to people to a complete asshat on the flip of a dime. The game acts like you are given a choice to chose between your responses, but you can't, sometimes just trying to do some of the optional dialog v flips the emotion switch so fast that I find myself rolling my eyes thinking "V, did you really have to say things like that, why just why?" And it's not like you can do anything about it as you are just along for the ride on this on rails story. There are times where a character is upset and you want to be a caring choom and be there for them. Vincent either won't say anything or will have a option that sounds like something I would say but surprise nope! V says something that sounds like he's being a dick about it. In summary I don't like V/Vincent. Moving on.
The game looks pretty, like really pretty (l'm on the ps5, so even though it's the ps4 pro version it still looks amazing) the textures look good and the character models do too. However, I don't like how the characters walking around night city have clothes that we can't buy and wear ourselves, like there are these cool neon transparent jackets that we can wear, there are full metallic tape outfits, and many more. The vehicles look great. But there are variations and color schemes that we just don't get to use and it's a let down. Also the vehicles handle weirdly like most of them handle like the roads are always slick with rain or sleet on the street.
There's very little in terms of dynamic weather, the occasional rain doesn't cut it. Gone are the dust storms and acid rain in the bad lands. I honestly can't tell what season it is in night city, is it summer or spring? Maybe it's winter in night city and we just don't know it. Perhaps that militec crate we receive in our apartment is secretly a Christmas gift.
The game has some good moments, like in the early missions with jackie. But then instead of playing six months with him, a building ourself up with the money, earning the reputation needed to attract the attention of Dexter deshawn, we just skip ahead and it's stolen from my hands. They basically skipped the story we were promised in those early trailers and that's disappointing. Then jackie gets the big are for another J named character who gets forcefully injected into our head, Johnny silverhand. Why the heck is this relic of a dude who died in 2020 stuck in our heads? Let me just say, I like Keanu, but I don't like silverhand much. The guy is meant to be a "Second Protagonist" (I thought I was the Protagonist of this story and that this was my story?) Instead it's more like Johnny silverhand's raid on V's (Vincent's......uhg still hate that name) story. At the best of times Johnny's funny and witty, adding light hearted tension breaking additions to the bleak story.. At the worst of times (More often than the former) he's annoying, he chimes in with his sabotaging dialog to ruin a good moment with his suggestions, exclamations, rants, and pestering. It's like they just are force feeding this cancer of a charcter into my bloodstream. He's like a child that constantly does whatever they can do to get attention. Or like the Mr.Meeseeks from rick & morty, always popping up going "I'm Johnny! Look at me!", I have to break out the flyswatter and tell him to buzz off. I feel like his inclusion as a main focal point of the story, has robbed me of my own story. Like yes there's a reputation system in the game but it doesn't effect much besides unlocks a very small mentions. Even when you hit the highest reputation, you aren't a "Legend of Night City!" You are still a two-bit terminally ill excuse of a mercenary, with a botched reputation, and semi antagonistic ghost stuck in your head. No one really knows who you are or cares, save for a small band of characters who know you personally. I'm sure jackie would be turning over in his grave to see that his sacrifice to help his choom make it to the top was for nothing.
There's nothing to do in terms of side activities in night city. Not side jobs, not side rent a cop distractions. I mean actual activities that aren't tied to a side mission. Fight clubs that aren't just a side, aren't here. Night clubs that you meet flirt with npcs, pickup one night stands, hell grab a drink and visibly drink it, dance in third person, in some club there's not even a dj, nope not in the game. Gambling? Nope sorry choom it's not here either, there's a casino in the game and you can't play anything in it, the pachinko machines have a arrow like the vending machines to show where you can interact with them but nope. Dynamic, non scripted, and non story related street races? Forget about it. You want gun range competitions? There's one and it's scripted.
The missing features and fact that the game was promoted to have these only to have them cut sucks because these were things that made the game stand out besides the cyberpunk skin thrown over a city. I'm not going over all of them since there's plenty of videos plastered over YouTube about them. I will however mention two. The train system would've been a excellent edition to the game to give us a leisurely tour through night city. Especially if fast travel wasn't a thing and the train was fast but not instant, with dynamic events on it, like conversations with npcs, gang members getting on and hassling people, live concerts, and talents being shown off to help organically past the time. The second is third person cutscenes. These would've given us a chance to see our Vs in their custom outfits. Not only that but it would've given more emotion to the situations because we could see the emotion on v's face, instead of the disconnect we currently have. Also it would've given the devs third person animations of v to use in the optional third person camera angle for walking through night city, instead of the absolute mess we have for animations when the game is modded to third person or just clips to third person. On the topic of animations, the animations in general need work, they all look really weird in the shadows and other times when you notice them, I know the game was rushed but that should've been in the baseline of developing v's movement.
The results: A mediocre gumbo of a game. It looks pretty but tastes bland and leaves you feeling hungry a hour after you eat it.
The skeleton of the game needs work before they add to it, but I knew that. Though there's so much lacking from the core of the game, that even if the game ran perfectly well the story is subpar. The characters all feel like one off stories in they aren't in the main story. And even then sometimes even they do to. The city looks pretty but is hallow side from artwork and visuals. And I do not feel like im a character in this universe at all, rather I'm on the outside of the game, looking into the game, from above and from there, then looking down at the V's poor excuse for a buddy adventure with Johnny silverhand.
However I would consider this game a action open world game with some lite rpg elements. Not a full on next gen rpg.
In closing. I do like the game, but I'm not afraid to critique it. I'm not blinded in my opinion by Keanu inclusion, dry pr speak or apologies, or the even the youtubers. This is my opinion. Someone else's might differ and that is okay. But I critique my own creations and still love them, and I will do the same for something that I bought with my hard earned money through working my job. If I buy your game I have the right to critique and analyze it. There's no nda on the fans lol.

2020 showed me how much I love gaming

Hey everyone. u/Finite_Universe 's mini reviews were lovely to read and inspired me to write this post. I'd like to start with a little background: I'm approaching my thirties and after playing daily as a kid and a teenager, I really haven't played a lot in recent years. My wife thinks it's a total waste of time and so I didn't want to annoy her with it and I was and still am quite busy.
Essentially, I thought that the enjoyment I'd get from gaming would not exceed my wife's annoyance, and with the little time I had, I just let it be.
I am not 100% sure what brought me back to gaming regularly, but the announcement of Trials of Mana surely lit the spark. Seiken Densetsu 3 was the game of my childhood. I played it for hours and hours with my friend on a SNES emulator with fan translations. I remember the moment when I learnt about the remake, I honestly lost my shit in a train full of commuting people, it was really incredible and came out of nowhere.
Later, my brother-in-law gifted me a Switch Lite and I guess you could say that things escalated quickly lol. Work from home and a little less work to do in general surely helped as well. I also collected a lot of handhelds (GB Pocket, GB Color, GBA, GBA SP, GB Micro, DSi XL, PSP Go, PS Vita, 2DS, N3DS XL), modded some of them, put custom firmware on most of them and tried to get my hand on some of the essential games.
So now I would like to list the games I've played this year and share some fond memories with you. I'll start with the ten games I finished in chronological order:

Metroid Samus Returns
Platform: 3DS XL
Status: Finished
By the end of 2019, I finished Metroid Zero Mission and fell in love with the franchise. I bought a 3DS XL specifically for this game and couldn't put it down. The Metroid Queen and Diggernaut were very memorable bosses and I loved the game as a whole. I played AM2R as well and love this too, but I still slightly prefer this version (pls don't kill me, reddit).

Ratchet & Clank
Platform: PS Vita
Status: Finished
What a fun game. Very nostalgic for me, since I played it on my PS2 as a teenager. The Vita is a fantastic handheld that's very underrated and it was great to play this game on the go. I love Clank, the game's humor and the different weapons. The final boss was very challenging since I was a little underprepared so to say, so it was a great feeling to finally beat him.

Trials of Mana
Platform: Switch Lite
Status: Finished
Oh boy, I was never that excited when I received a game. Luckily, the game held up to my expectations. It's by no means perfect, I'd say it's a 7.5/10 but it was so much fun and I couldn't put it down. In fact, I started a second playthrough something like 5 minutes after I beat the game. The biggest downside for me was that it was way too easy. Multiplayer would have been great as well. The last dungeon is too long. But Square did a goob job in staying true to the original and not messing it up like certain other Remakes.

Metroid Fusion
Platform: Game Boy Advance SP
Status: Finished
You know it: Great atmosphere, memorable boss fights, satisfying upgrades, an amazing Metroid experience. Too short unfortunately but I kind of liked the more linear progression through this game compared to its fellow games from the series.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Platform: Switch Lite
Status: Finished
I originally enjoyed the game much more than I thought but when I got to the end of it, I was really glad it was over. I just grew tired of it since it's pretty repetitive. I didn't like the story too much, the time spent in the academy was too much for my liking and overall it was a little too weeby for the lack of a better word. I started on normal, switched to hard, but it was still a little too easy with the exception of the last battle.

Final Fantasy VI Advance
Plaform: Game Boy Advance SP
Status: Finished
Absolutely incredible game, easily in my all-time top 3. A friend of mine almost forced me to play it and I'm so glad he did. When I first started, I played until shortly after I got to the World of Ruin, then stopped for some reason (I think it was because I got Trials of Mana). It took some effort to pick it up again but I once I started again, I was soon immersed. I love how crazy the story is, the different characters, Kefka as a villain, fighting a train, the Opera scene, the soundtrack, just so many unique experiences I'll never forget. I did some grinding near the end to learn some more rage attacks and improve my equipment in the Colosseum before I took on Kefka. I also started the bonus dungeon after that but couldn't stick to it for some reason. I would have liked a little more guidance once you're in the World of Ruin but thanks to the Caves of Narshe guide, it was still more than enjoyable.

SUPERHOT
Platform: Switch Lite
Status: Finished
Quite the change of scenery from FFVI but that's exactly what I wanted. I love gyro aiming and SUPERHOT was praised for its implementation, so I got it. Very fun gameplay except for that cage level where you start without a weapon. The final level took me a lot of tries.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Platform: Switch Lite
Status: Finished
Debatable if you can finish Mario Kart or when it should count, but I got to the credentials, so I think it counts. As fun as it gets, I enjoyed every second of it. So many great courses, great controls and cool upgrades.

Pokémon Fire Red
Platform: Game Boy Micro
Status: Finished
I beat the Elite Four and started a second run of Leaf Green with the purpose of completing my PokéDex. However I soon put it down since my team consisted almost entirely of Pokémon I traded and those get 150% EP which soon results in an OP team. Maybe I'll go after it later.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Platform: Switch
Status: Finished
I sold my Switch Lite in order to upgrade to a Switch in the meantime and I'm very glad I did, especially with this game in hand. BotW was my first open world game and with currently 90h+ it's the single player game I put the most time into so far. In the end, I was probably a little too well equipped when I entered Hyrule Castle and with decent parrying and flurry rushing it was not as challenging as I hoped it would be. I am currently upgrading my armor sets and very much enjoy farming materials with the help of the Sheikah Sensor. It's not the first Zelda I ever played, but the first I finished and I definitely plan on continuing the series.

In the past, I never really finished most of the games I had but currently, I really love the feeling of completing at least the main story. I also started some other games this year which I have not (yet) beaten. The ones I'd like to mention because I've put enough time into them are Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (Switch), Link to the Past (Switch Online) and Metroid Prime (Wii) and I am sure I will finish them some time soon.
Last week I started Mario Odyssey on Switch and Chrono Trigger on my DSi XL. I've played Chrono Trigger before and found an old save file where I already had Magus, but I couldn't really continue since I didn't know where to go and how to handle the game's mechanics anymore, so I started anew and boy do I enjoy it. I can't wait to finish it this time around.
I also played World of Warcraft Classic. As a teenager, I literally spent thousands of hours in Azeroth, but I only started with Burning Crusade and stopped soon after Wrath of the Lich King. This time around, I played much more slowly, got more into the lore, explored places I've never seen before and put a lot of time into leatherworking. I played until I reached level 41, bought a raptor for my troll hunter and stopped after that, since it was such a big milestone, the way to level 60 seemed too long and my thirst was pretty much quenched after that.

Conclusion
Gaming gave me a lot of joy this year. So much, that I cannot imagine not playing for such a long time ever again. I had more time in my hands but I also actively created time slots where I could play games. I think I found a good compromise with my wife since I don't play games during times where we can spend time together so she's not really bothered at the moment which is great. Finally, not having played for years leaves me with a huge backlog of classics and amazing games which I can now thoroughly enjoy and get into without ever having to worry if there will be a great game after the one I'm currently playing.

Switch family online question

I’ve looked and I can’t find a solid answer to my question, hoping you guys can help. We own three switches, but really only purchase games on one account. I’m aware of the trickery that can be done to play the same game on a SECOND switch and it worked great when we only had two. But that’s not my current issue.
I primarily play games on the Switch Lite (during work hours from home lol) and most are downloaded games. Obviously I’m not expecting to be able to play the same games at the same time. My current problem is that if either of the other switches are playing ANYTHING associated with my account, I can’t launch a single game. And since all the games we buy are on my account, my son on the primary can play them using another account but my daughter on the first secondary is required to be on my account AND connected to the internet, which blocks me out of using any of the significant number of games I have purchased.
Is there a way around this issue? I’ve been eyeing the Nintendo Online family plan but unless it solves this very specific circumstance it isn’t worth it for me. Appreciate any input! Happy to answer clarifying questions if this isn’t clear

Splatoon vs. Pokemon

Hello, I bought myself anew switch lite AND Nintendo online and now I only have money for one game, I cannot buy another one in the near future because of money issues. I like both games, the only thing that is important is that I need the game that has more value for its money, more fun and more playtime. I never played Splatoon before but I know it, I played Pokémon since I was a child. So I don't know if I should go for nostalgia or for something new and I also do not know which game is overall more fun or has more playtime, I hope you guys can help me with this decision. :)

Please help, does everyone have this problem?

I’ve been playing Ultimate on Switch pretty much since it came out. Playing on my TV was horribly laggy and unplayable (another player game by and confirmed this) so I could only play online handheld. I went through a few controllers over the years but the lag was always there, often costing me battles. I always figured the lag was the switch and recently got a switch lite.
The lag was almost gone! Wayyy better. However I’ve had the switch lite for about a month now and the lag is worse than ever. Often I’m screaming at my character to dodge or shield because I press it and nothing happens. Basically the exact same problem as with my previous console, bad input (doing side A instead of up A, for example) or my character standing there like an idiot when I’ve pressed shield. Often I have to press buttons three or four times before the character finally does the move.
It’s so frustrating I often end up rage quitting and uninstalling the game. It’s pretty upsetting that TWO consoles have done this. Are the Switch and Switch Lite just bad? Playing on a TV is impossible with the Lite and I don’t want to quit smash but I also can’t invest in a new TV and a pro controller.
Does anyone else use a switch lite to play smash and do you have similar problems?

3DS or Switch?

I want a handheld console for some gaming, but as I have found out the older Pokemon games are not available on the switch, I'm hesitant to get it now. I see you can still buy them on the 3DS, but I see some posts about it being offline, and some say its still online. I know there are a few free to play games for the switch like paladins, but that would require wifi. Is it worth still getting a 3DS for just Zelda games, Pokemon games, and maybe smash 3DS? Or is it so outdated and unused that it would be pointless? And is sword/shield even worth getting for someone who prefers the older games like silvegold?
Edit: I'd also like to mention that at home, I am a pc gamer. So this is more or less for portable purposes, though, if I got the switch (not the lite) I would likely post videos and stream on youtube. So newer games and such that are not Nintendo related, I'm not really concerned with.
I appreciate any feedback!

Question about having my boyfriend share my island with me?

So, this might sound very confusing and hectic so I’ll try to explain as best as I can. I currently have NH for the Switch Lite. My boyfriend also has a Switch Lite, but does not have NH and does not want me to buy him NH because he doesn’t think he’ll play it (which I totally understand, we’re in a tough financial spot and he’s more of a console guy).
HOWEVER, I made him a character on my island and my eventual hope is that he’ll be able to play as his character and interact with my character without getting a new NH game. I have very little experience with the Switch Lite (I can’t even figure out how to do multiplayer on MK without paying for switch online) so I have absolutely no idea if that’s even possible, let alone how to figure out how one would do that.
My question here is basically: Is it possible for two people to play at the same time, on the same island, on different handhelds, without getting a second copy of NH? Or did I create his character on my island and set him up with 4 room house and all of the NM packages for basically no reason?
The only time I play as his character is to pay off home loans and build up his house/character, so it’s not like I’m using it for extra storage space or anything else that will help me in the game. I know I could utilize his character for many other things, but it just feels very overwhelming to me because I’ve already built up my character so much and doing the same thing for his when he won’t be able to enjoy it seems pointless.
We are living apart as of right now (after over a year of living together) due to circumstances beyond our control and I created his character so I would feel closer to him. We probably won’t be doing much for Valentines Day this year because of various shifts in our personal lives so I was hoping I could somehow find a way for us to do things as like an in-game date.
If it’s not possible that’s fine, but I can’t think of a community that would be more knowledgeable than this one!

How can I (F27) help my bf (M21) understand my point of view about inviting me over to watch him play video games?

Hey everyone,
Recently I had a fight with my boyfriend about video games and how we both view attention with each other differently. (TL;DR at the end of post sorry it’s a long one :))
I understand my boyfriend love video games and that he uses that as time to bond with his friends or just for stress relief. That’s why during Christmas I saved up to buy him a new gaming chair because I know he can get lost in his games. On top of that I purchased myself a Nintendo switch lite that I can carry around and play when he plays his game so I’m not stuck watching him play.
For my side of the story, I understand that he loves video games, but I get upset if he ask me to come over since we don’t live together with opposite working schedule. So he’ll ask me to come over by saying, ‘do you want to come over? But don’t feel forced to’ which to me is a suggestion that you want to spend time together because you would ask otherwise and I’m not shy about me asking him to hang out. Once I agree to coming over usually after work during the time it takes me to get to his house it’s like he invites his friend to get online to play games for hours. I’ve told him in the past just give me a heads up if you’re playing game that way I have something to distract myself either video games or finding shows to watch on my phone. After about three hours of me just being there doing my own thing and him still playing games I start to get irritated since it feels like he invited me over to watch him play video games with his friends when I don’t truly spend time with but maybe a few times a week since we use weekends for family time. All I would like is a heads up if he is going to play games so I can either do other things or go do something else instead of feeling obligated to stay and watch for hours.
His side of the story is that he doesn’t get to hang out with his friends because he see him less than me. He feels like I should understand that. He enjoys me just being there and he gives me attention for a few seconds in between his game play with friends. When he is not playing games he says I don’t give him my undivided attention which is usually after he’s played games for hours and I’m irritated after a few hours. He thinks that we should be able to play games all together but he gets very competitive with video games so he gets upset after losing.
[TL;DR: my bf invites me over and then plays with his friend online for hours after I get to his place. I’ve told him before just let me know if he wants me to come over while he play games so I can find ways to distract myself instead of being bored for hours since he can go for more than four hours and gets lost in his games. He enjoys me just being present and in the same room but I get bored after two hours of being on my phone when I barely spend time with him already. He feels like I should understand the situation and not have an issue because it’s his bonding time with friends and that I don’t give him enough attention anyway when we do spend time together. He suggest playing all together but him and his friends are super competitive and upset about lose when I’m not that great at games. ]
Any suggestions? Or advice that can help?
Please and thank you!

Buying Switch Lite Soon

Hi everybody
I'm planning on getting myself a Switch Lite here in the next few days. Have never played a Switch of any kind, but loved the DS years ago and am looking to get back into a portable.
Looking for suggestions of any kind. My plan is to get the Lite with a 128gb card, a 12 month online sub, and a few games. I'm thinking Smash Ultimate for sure, and either BOTW or Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. Also interested in the Trine series, but probably will do that later on. Also looking for a (relatively inexpensive) carrying case bundle with a screen protector. I also have a set of Samsung wireless headphones (buds pro) so am considering a Bluetooth adapter so I can use those with the Lite. Have heard mixed reviews on the adapters, particularly with regard to latency as well as getting the maximum quality interaction with the headphones (something about not supporting adtc-something-or-other?), so not sure it's worth the extra $.
Any thoughts on any of those plans? Yay/Nay to any or all of it? I've read that BOTW can be a bit of a chore on the Lite, and don't have any friends that have a Switch, so unsure if the online sub is necessary. Either way I'm excited to get to gaming with it. Thoughts?
TLDR: Getting a Lite soon. What should I buy with it to get started?
